What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Finally got my Halo9 installed. Playing around with the screen location, but for now this works. I don't like hot air blowing on me, so no issues with screen blocking the vents. When it gets closer to summer I will lower it to the usual location seen in other installs. Install was a pain as audio/wiring is out of my realm of knowledge. I had help. Maestro function is awesome. Having CarPlay makes it all worth it.

After trying almost everything in the book to find a decent phone holder, finally decided to just drill the dash for a permanent install. I had some success with the ProClip as seen in my other thread, but there were two issues: the air vent was blocked and even after a day the ProClip started leaning slightly in the direction of the nano arm. I don't know why I waited this long to drill (fingers crossed).

The MagMount G3 is no joke. It does not budge. I can plug in and disconnect my lightning cable with one hand - pushing or pulling does nothing to the phone.

Not today, but yesterday. My Blitz sliders arrived from Victory 4x4. The box was ripped open when it arrived and the powder coat is damaged on both sliders. Now instead of looking forward to wrenching and wiring I have to figure out how to get made right. The most disappointing thing is how poorly the sliders were packaged. A 70# box, probably 15" square and as long as the sliders, with nothing inside but the sliders and one piece of styrofoam. Tons of empty space inside for them to bang around in transit. It seems almost inevitable that something would get damaged in shipping. I won't be able to hear back from Victory until at least Monday.

The first thing I noticed when opening my RSG sliders was the insane work that went in to packaging. Gratuitous use of foam and 100% of the sliders were wrapped in plastic. Those things would have come out of a tornado unscathed.

What's going in next? Drawer system?

Really just did it to help lower my fridge down. With the rear deck it was up 5" or so over what normal rears have. And because I couldn't slide it out as far as I wanted, I could never open the rear hatch completely to the fridge.

My wife is also shorter, so with it dropped down she can now work with it easily and everything opens perfectly.

The other is indeed a drawer. I'm just doing a half drawer because I don't want a ton of added weight, but more importantly, don't want something stacked extremely high. Still will have more stuff I want to bring so wanted a spot to hold stuff, but still, be able to add those odd-shaped items.

I'll have 12" more of space than I do in my gear box which I'm looking forward to.

Here's a little pic before I do sound deadening and tighten everything down for good. Only thing missing is the drawer which should go in sometime next week.

Just put them on and start using them. They'll get scratched up to match in no time.

Took my 5th Gen 4runner (2021 SR5 Premium) for off-roading this weekend, I am in northeast with lots of snow and ice in Connecticut. Not much great trails here, but I took a mediocre trail (According to my standards for those off-roading must have been probably easy ones). I got stuck in two places while I was trying to get out of slippery ice & snow in a sharp bend, along with a steep slope it struggled to climb I had to do a lot of maneuvers at that point tons of questions started to rush to my mind am I doing the right things sort questions

I was in 4L- D2, D3 and I could see my RPM meter hitting the red-zone as I was slowly inching up the slippery icy slope
a. By doing that am I going to damage anything at that high (8000) rpm during 4L what are the limits of engine rpm speeds to be aware of …?
b. I was constantly shifting between drive & reverse fast just to keep the momentum is there anything I should keep in mind or is it ok..?
c. Also I had to shift between 4L and 4H in order to keep the momentum I needed in some places to be in 4H and to 4L
d. Finally I notice when I come to main road and turn to H2 I hear some sort of very slight rubbing noise, Its probably I feel its coming from engaging and disengaging 4WD this is not the first time I am hearing, I heard this noise even early on now I have ~1600 miles I probably heard It earlier I don’t remember exactly around what miles, any thoughts here..?
e. When I park in the garage I smell some sort of heat smell, definitely not burnt smell, I can smell something is hot and I used to get the smell when I have normal drives, is that normal I did not encounter those when I had my 4thgen but its was a 2WD (when I was in houston area) Should I check that out or is it normal new engine and gears smell due to heat..?
f. any recommendation for those scratches from tree branches and bushes mine is getting bad I have a Black Rig.

Any feedback would be appreciated specially those questions are constantly lingering in my mind

You didn't hit 8000 rpm, not possible. You likely didn't hurt anything, but jumping from drive to reverse over and over will blow up your transmission if you keep it up and no warranty won't cover your $8,000 transmission replacement. Get rid of the junk street tires before you take it off road again.

^^ What he said. Plus you should have tried A-Trac. So many people go off road and forget they have it. It is a pretty amazing system. I'm not saying for sure it would have worked for you in this instance but surly worth a try. The heat smell you got isn't surprising since you were working the truck pretty hard.

Installed the Desert Does It Seat Jacker with the molle panel and I was actually surprised at how much more comfortable the seat was. I'm 6'4" and do sit a little taller in the seat but still do not hit the roof. Install took like 30 minutes. Highly recommend!

Really like the angle of that cut. Do you have a side profile picture? Wheel offset? I need to do a similar cut but agonizing over how aggressive I really want to go.. yours looks amazing.

I wanted a very mild cut and mag4rnr did just that. He basically followed the bottom body line; the only thing cut is the bottom flap of the bumper.

I don't have a full side profile but the wheels are 17x8 -10 with 275/70s.

Salem, Oregon had a BIG ice storm, trees and power lines down. No power at home since Friday. The T4 has been doing duty by keeping a small freezer at zero. Run it for a while every hour or two using the inverter to charge stuff and run the freezer. Looks like 2 or more days to go. Spending time with chainsaw. It gets crappy mileage, but up if we drive somewhere it goes up, like magic.

Spent the morning with the chainsaw at a couple of my restaurants.

Then off to my parents who live in LO that are still out of power and so I ran their sump pump for 2 hours with the inverter.
