5th Gen Battery to Winch Disconnect Switch Bracket!

Yesterday I installed my custom made bracket for a battery disconnect switch. I wanted a way to disconnect my winch from my battery so that there is no chance of parasitic draw. I also just like having the control just in case something malfunctions.

Finished my electrical work. Solar, dual battery, fuse box power in rear. Works great. Preparing to move back into the 4runner full time in a few months. Did it for 4 years before without any of this stuff and I wanted to make myself more comfortable. Here's a diagram for fun.

Sadly, i said goodbye to mine. a week ago, after a 10hr shift, on a rainy and sleepy commute home, i nodded between lights, and rearended, of all things, a 1996 Toyota Hilux Surf/Right driver. Totally my fault. The driver was stunned, but not injured thankfully, but i felt like a fooggin idiot. the thing i learned, besides get some more sleep, is our 4Runners are NOT these Surfs. My truck looks like it looks now...where the Surf had a medium dent in the rear door, a broken rear window, and that was it. I stood there in the rain as the LEO was doing his thing, looking at my truck and the one i hit thinking "these things are NOT the same"

Today, i am moving on. Ill dip in from time to time, but ive got to go sign myself up at the nearest/bestest sister station for....Tacomas. Ive searched the earth to find that rare find...a brand new 2026 Taco TRD Off Road w/ a Manual transmission...i wont call it love at first sight, but im pretty dayum smittened so far after 25 miles...my first new car...EVER!!!! :banana:

Made the trip from SoCal to Montana over the weekend and rolled past 403K miles on the 2014. This truck will easily make 500K.

Yup, fulltime. Driving around the west, hiking and bagging peaks most days of the week. Problem was, I got into a food rut because I only had a cooler which limited the fresh foods I could carry and it really started to drag on me. So I took a break about 1.5 yrs ago to enjoy showers everyday and 24/7 access to a toilet. Now I'm ready to go back to it.

After recent alternator failure and replacement, I decided (based on threads here) to replace the brushes in the original Denso alternator which lasted 318K miles. Side-by-side shows the difference in wear on the brushes between old and new:

Glad all were ok. Other than now driving a Tacoma it sounds like a good outcome, all things considered!

After experiencing 3 no-starts the past couple weeks, all of which were cured by jiggling or moving the shifter, I replaced the neutral safety switch today at 405.2K miles. Most of the DIY videos showed rust belt trucks with guys using torches to get the old switch off. Sorry, but ours is a western truck and it just took a pry on each side. Job was done in less than 20 minutes. New one was an aftermarket switch which cost $26 vs the $127 Toyota wants for theirs. It works perfectly. Picture is of the old one.

During my lunch today I replaced the front sway bar bushings on our 2014. Took me about 20 minutes. Seems like the noise I was seeking to address is gone, but I will wait for a full off-road test.

I was experiencing noise over bumps and potholes on the driver’s side. While doing an oil change I did some yanking on the sway bar and discovered some play there, where there should be none.

The 4runner behaved as designed, the front of the runner is open space, no serious reinforcement apart from the crossbar at the tyre level., so any collision higher than that would look horrible, it would crumple the bonnet and whatever is inbetween

Front Area has some burnt out wires. if anyone know part number for connector FA2 junction that'd be awesome as my pin is fried off
