What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Replaced the OEM battery on my '18 SR5. Wouldn't crank yesterday. Charged all night, fired it up and drove to town and had it replaced. Die Hard Platinum AGM 710 CCA/885 CA at Carquest. Then I gave it a much needed bath at the coin op.

Caught up on a few maintenance items. Engine oil and filter, radiator drain and fill, Power Steering reservoir drain and fill and transmission drain and fill. After recovering from that, 4 new tires - Toyo Open Country AT III.

tailpipe fell off this morning. tried to inspect and see if I could somehow keep it up there. broke at the flange. couldn't remove it, exhaust going straight up and around wiring. got underneath and started inspecting. after about 2 minutes of a constant shower of rust flakes falling on my face I swore a few times , drove it to toyota and left it there. original exhuast, 14 years old, 180k miles, acceptable life span

Pulled to a stop down our driveway in the 2014 SR5 and could hear metal on metal grind from rear brakes. Pulled the right rear and the outer pad was just worn down to the metal, inner pad had like 1/4” left. Left rear both pads were the same at 1/4”. Had replaced stuck left rear caliper 75K miles ago. Time to replace right rear caliper, pads and rotors. Had new pad and slapped them in on right rear so car could be used while waiting for the other parts to arrive. Still have my wife’s 2023 ORP and my ‘99 K2500 Suburban to drive. I’ll do some fishing while waiting for parts and the weather is still good here in Montana.

Slapped together a short video of me installing a ValvoMax oil plug and "attempting" to use a MotiveX filter wrench and drain. The wrench worked great on the filter, but the drain plug was not coming out.. I had to remove the filter still full of oil. I'lll be purchasing the oem metal oil filter soon.

Today, for my 4Runner's 100,000 mi anniversary I decided to upgrade her sound and bought some Kicker KS 6x9 component speakers for her front doors and a Kicker Key amp to power it all. They also sell a complete 8-speaker kit, so before I bought anything, I listened to my current factory stereo to see how much the rear speakers contributed to the sound. Honestly, it was hard to hear any difference with the rears balanced to the front 100% vs normal 50/50 panning. Maybe 5%? I understand all the rears are running at 8ohms with a crossover and it just kills their volume and sound quality. A quick AI search confirmed my suspicions - and the fact that I don't have party mode - so I only bought the front pair.

For now, I'm holding off on speakers for the rear because the current ones probably work well enough for the quantity of sound they contribute. We'll see how the Key amp DSP changes things once the install is complete. I understand it can actually fix the volume imbalance and restore the crossover frequencies in the rear speakers. If it can do that, I will be very impressed. I'd love to have better sound out of the tailgate.

I replaced my battery preemptively before winter, they tend to last me about 3 years in the Texas heat. Yesterday I changed out the rotors and brake pads in an attempt to rule out causes of vibrations (they get worse when hitting the brakes. It did not stop it). Today I did an oil and filter change along with changing out the Frantz bypass filter. I changed the air filter too. Friday I will get new tires (Yokohama Geolander AT4) and then will get an alignment.
