What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Congrats to Bella. I am not sure how well I could tackle the traffic on 17/Mathis Ferry/Rifle Range these days at a young age. Crazy amount of people living in Mt. P. these days.

Is kinda scary, we have gone from about 20k people in the early 90s to 85k now. Great vehicle for her though. She is only 4' 10" (and done growing we are told) and the seats are perfect size with great visibility.

Finally installed my 1" body lift... but my tires actually rub more now than they did before the lift. I'm going to have to find an alignment shop that can do a better job with my caster with stock UCA's. The last place I took it left the right with slight negative camber and said that's all they could do. I think that will solve my problem. Also didn't bother with moving the bumper to match the lift, hopefully I can afford the addicted offroad plate bumper sooner rather than later!

Also added some reinforcement to my fold down hitch mounted tire carrier just for the hell of it

Oh, and did the gray (blue) wire mod for the locker while I had the kick panel removed

I am new around here and picked up a 2000 SR5 with 134k miles about a month ago. Yesterday, installed FJ Cruiser wheels and 265/70 R17 duratracs. I wasn’t 100% sure the tires would fit but trolling here enough gave me the confidence to give it a shot. No rubbing issues!

I also installed an aftermarket radio with Bluetooth and started replacing the rusted rear bumper with a new one. Finishing that up this morning and removing the side steps while it’s up in the air. I had to get some hardware to replace the bolts I cut getting it off. Aside from the bumper and hitch, there is minimal rust anywhere. It was a well cared for truck.

Did a little interior cleaning today, which opened up the leather smell a bit, missed that! So now I just want to go through and recondition all the seats and door panels!!!

installed a the new Sony XAV-AX100 Android Auto headunit. Works great so far.

Also Replaced the bugger of a brake light switch. Just makes me think of the japan engineers designing these things..

So I went to a local wrecker and he assured me that the part he had would fit. Only after tearing my door open only to realise it doesn’t and I am trying to figure out why.

Nearly every part available on the internet does not have the extra piece shown above the spring. (even exploded diagram in my FSM shows readily available part). See attached photo.

(There are a few: one silver one in CA, black one in UAE, and one is Bristol, UK)

Any insight would be useful.

I have black 1999 4Runner, SR5, manual transmission with 3.4L V6 engine, power windows, LHD.

Well.... it was oem but last time I went trailing I dropped the tank right on top of a sharp rock and damaged/punctured. Just reminded me I need skid plates asap

Gloss blacked my off road wheels with Plasti-dip and added the peel-able clear coat

Finally filled the holes in my car from taking off the limited fenders and cladding and herculined the bottom half. Up next is the fxr retrofit and monstalining the top half either desert tan or army green.

Windshield Wipers Restore

Restored my windshield wipers, they were starting to chip and look faded. First pictures are before. Second pictures are after

Anybody else looking to paint the flares, a quick tip.. use index cards to stuff between flare and fender..much easier then trying to get tape in between the 2 parts.

Good tip - but do you stick the index card between the flare and the gasket, or between the gasket and the fender?

Did lower ball joints and fixed a windshield rock chip. The lbj took me 2.5 hours with hand tools, including getting everything ready and putting all the tools away. Not a bad job at all. The old ball joints did not feel bad when I compared them to the new ones but I could feel the difference when I drove the truck, more solid feel to the front end. 250,000 miles on the old ones so I guess it would make a difference.

I have new oem LBJs sitting in my garage that I need to install soon. About the same amount of miles on my current ones. Glad to hear it was a pretty straightforward job!

I went between the gasket and fender with the index card. The gasket needed painted anyway.
