According to Safari LTD, this company pretty much focuses just on steering gears and pumps, and have corrected some of the issues that exist with the OEM steering rack that lend itself to premature failure and problems.

Although they did point out one thing that I never thought about, but that makes perfect sense. Most steering gears nowadays are in front of the front axle; this allows the steering gear or rack to 'pull' the wheels left and right. Some of the older stuff has a steering gear/rack that's behind the front axle, meaning it has to 'push' the wheels left and right. Evidently those tend to wear out quicker, as it's a bit harder to push than it is to pull.

In other words, you might have the best steering rack EVAR and it may still prematurely fail.

This being said, even if it didn't, from what I'm seeing out there, it's better than your normal aftermarket stuff, and it has a 2-year, unlimited warranty. That alone's enough. LOL Most aftermarkets are $300 to $400 or so; an OEM is $750. The one from Safari LTD is $495 plus shipping, and the guys there are super easy to work with.

In any event, I'll post more on it once it's installed and I have a chance to drive it.

Sounds like the best way to go to me! $495 sounds excellent compared to what I was expecting lol. I have replaced everything else in the front end and still have a little tiny bit of play. I'm 80% sure this is it.

LOL - ditto here. Have replaced the LBJs and OTREs just in case; and the steering rack guide and bushings are replaced as well. OEM ITREs are about $250 for the both of 'em plus shipping, so I said "To heck with it" and ordered the whole steering rack. :)

Haha yep. The itre's are the only thing not new. Makes sense to replace the whole rack for an extra 250. Most people say "what slop" but I can feel it and its so annoying!

Tried to get the bumper to fit today but it looks like the guy that built it made custom brackets for the bumper mounts. Not a big deal. Just going to have to wait until I get home to weld it up. Still a great find for $200!

Haha I've been noticing that bumper on TacomaWorld for the past week. Nice!

Well cause the front bumpers on there are fundementally weak and I broke the pinch weld holding the bumper to the bracket I decided to "fix" that. At least I won't lose most of my bumper in Moab lol

New plugs

I've owned it less than ten days. There's 135k miles on the clock and it looks like I changed the sparks plugs for the first time. Notice the different Denso and NGK plugs with gaps that ranged from.65-.75.

Changed the plugs and wires with new OEM goods from the dealer.

Needless to say she runs much different.

I'm at the optometrist.

It just turned 123,000 miles yesterday. :)

It's been running pretty well. Especially in grid lock start and stop traffic. Throttle response is good. No sputtering.

Changed the spark plugs and wires with OEM and cleaned the TB and MAF.
These are the old plugs, what do you think? Not sure last time they were changed, I bought the truck Dec 2011 with 136,XXX. She now has 159,883.
Next weekend: LBJ and Big 3 Upgrade

Had my rotors resurfaced due to warping. Pads had 20k on them and still had 75% life left, but had to replace them too because they had cracks laterally in a few places. Time to really start considering the 231mm TBU.
