I for one rarely look at the stickied threads. I just this evening noticed there was a stickied Secret Santa thread in General Discussion, and I only noticed that because when looking at the Main Page, I noticed a reply in that thread.

Maybe next year.

So anyway, I would say no to stickying any thread that you want members that are here regularly, to notice.

First off no to sticky, If we keep the thread alive we don't have to worry about scrolling much to find it!

Secondly, I didn't do this today, but yesterday after I was done my buddy wanted to head to the bar, and 7 hours later I finally got back to my room, so I decided I'd put this off till today.

Decided I needed a new head unit. Went with a kenwood with bluetooth and all that fancy stuff.

I went with a single DIN head unit, and also got a CB radio to slap in the other dash slot, I plan on putting that in sooner or later, gotta bend the antenna mounting bracket I got a bit though to work with the hood.

Then I decided I needed to slap in some new speakers, got some 6.5" kickers for the front and 4" for the back. Put the 6.5's in yesterday, probably going to do the 4" ones tonight after work.

New ones sound way better than the old ones, but I need to get some new tweeters for the top of my doors, the driver side one seems to be blown so after about 28 volume the tweeter doesn't like life.

And just for fun, this is a pic I took the other day. The sun set seen from our chow hall.

This base has it's perks, the view is without a doubt one of them. Though the off-road around here is evidently not that great. There is a dirt road pretty close to base that people go on about, but seeing as I grew up on dirt roads it's kind of a joke.

No 2014 4runner for me at least for the moment. I will have to say that it feels more like a 3rd gen than the last two models. But still not sure that the 1GR engine can reach 200,000 miles with ease.

I'd say Kevin 5th gen part deux (like going from a 98 to a 99). It has some nice refinements over the previous 2010-2013 models IMO. If it had the interior of the Prado, I may have driven one off the dealership. My commuter car (Mazda Protege 5) needs a new engine after 271,000 miles, so it is going to a neighborhood kid for $300. Maybe another Mazda before the new year.

So on this evening I decided against the 4 inch speakers, for some reason, and decided I'd take a shot at removing the running boards. So I started at about 3 with a trip to Lowes to pick up some hardware for my CB mount install, and a set of wrenches. Got back to where I park, crawled under my car, and fought with it for quite some time, but managed to get all of the bolts off.... Except for the front brackets. For those who don't know, the front brackets on a 2002 don't have the nice bolt that's sticking out, and instead they are kind of sunken in, so you can't get a wrench on them. The last time I attempted the running boards I broke my 1/2inch socket (it was a crappy amazon brand any way) So I didn't have a way to remove them.... So I pulled the board off the side, while still leaving the bracket on, and made another trip to Lowes! This time I picked up a new socket set, it was on sale for like 24 bucks. So I got back to my parking spot, crawled under, got the bottom bolt off, and realized that the top bolt is a bit harder to deal with. I'm pretty sure a 1/2 inch deep socket is needed. Shit. So at this point I had already burned a bit of gas, and didn't feel like going back to get another tool, so instead I decided "Forget it, I'll try something stupid." I put the socket on the nut, and kind of held the wrench part onto it, not letting it go in, and pulled. Somehow it worked! I got that side off at around 1820. The other side came off a lot easier with the help of the socket wrench, and I had issues with the top front nut again, but was still able to get it off.

So the take away of that story is, make sure you have a 1/2 inch wrench, a 1/2 inch socket, a 1/2 inch deep socket, and a 10mm socket BEFORE you start, otherwise you will end up spending 4 hours and 2 trips to Lowes to get them off.

In brighter news, I also picked up a hack saw, so I can start my Satoshi Grille mod now!

Replaced the passenger side cv today since it tore an inner boot. Good thing I had a set of cv boots layin around so I can reboot my factory one now! I will be tackling that adventure this week lol.
