What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Had the front windshield replaced today after a rock chip ran all the way across.

Valve cover gaskets. I actually did them on Sunday but wanted to make sure that the engine wasn't' leaking oil from anywhere else before I patted myself on the back. Haven't seen a drop in four days now so consider this my pat. lol

Got my heads back from the machine shop and got to send them right back. Change your oil...

Surprising how long they last huh , I have near 400,000 KM on my original wires and coil packs ( touch wood lol ) .


I read somewhere on this site about that rain issue , can't recall where but someone's mentioned it.

Today I installed a wheelskins cover on my crappy steering wheel. I rode the motorcycle in to work, so I didn't test it out. I will post up more pics tonight. I hate steering wheel covers, so this was the closest thing to a new steering wheel, without spending $300 on a used one. Most of the damage/neglect to the steering wheel was done before I owned the car.

I've been needing new tires BADLY. For less than the price of new tires I got these 2016 Tacoma Sport takeoff wheels and tires. I knew I was going to be buying tires soon but didn't know I was getting new wheels as well!

Brought the Runner into the 21st century with a Pioneer avh 5800 install, amped and subbed. Trying to figure out where to splice parking brake wire from stereo loom into constant power so DVD mode functions while driving. Otherwise, install was a breeze.

Looks great with the '16 wheels.

I put in the same pioneer in earlier this year. If you haven't already, you need to buy a "microbypass" chip for like $15. I picked up mine on ebay direct from maker with free shipping, no tax.

Once installed, you'll have access to all menu items at all times.

If you didn't install a rearview camera, i'd highly suggest the pioneer nd-bc8. I got it for $80 after ditching the crappy $20 license plate ones on amazon. Installed for 7 months now, no issues in rain or with condensation.

That's a wheel skin. Install is tedious and takes time but worth it. They look better on the 4 spoke newer wheels than the 2 spoke older wheels.

did a complete drain and refill of all 16 qrts of mobile 1 in my transmission. I would have done a brand new filter since my runner has 226k miles just for piece of mind. but dealer sold me the wrong filter so i wasn't able to use it. So i just sprayed the crap out of the filter with brake cleaner. didn't see any kind of real gunk and the magnets were pretty clean so hopefully thats a good sign of a transmission to last for years to come.


my only question is that my transmission dipstick is a pain in the ass to reinstall every time i check the fluid. I have to force the dipstick in every time. Does anyone else have this issue?

Every single time. I wish someone would make a filler tube replacement that was straight instead of coiled around in 15 directions.

Yup, wheelskins. I actually went a size up from the recommended one, as the first one I received had too big of a gap. Exchange process was great.

I've had wheelskins on both my cars for a few years now and they have held up great. I would recommend them anytime. Way better than an autoparts store wheel cover

I found that mine likes to go in oriented in a certain position. Find that position by experimentation and then make a tiny notch on the handle and corisponding area of the tube. Then it's easy to know the proper position.

Also, use one hand to hold/push from the top and your other hand to push/guide/prevent binding on the metal stick part. Obviously have clean hands when you do it.

They don't go in "easy", but I have no issue other than it takes a little more effort that say the oil dipstick.

I did an oil change. Next oil change @ 416,000 miles.

Also heard rumor that wet stuff might fall from the sky today. Someone said it was called "rain" but I'm not sure since I can't recall the last time it happened in California...

Anyways, I put some Rain-X on just in case.

Finished replacing the brakelines, they were very cracked and while doing them I noticed some swelling at one bend, very glad I did them

Did you do anything to reinforce the drivers fender. That extra battery adds a lot of weight and the vibrations can tear the sheet metal.

Finally put my cb radio in. Cheap wal mart one but its basically only for the trail. It'll be fine
