Well I got as far as cleaning the mud off and cleaning the engine bay and then I wandered over to my neighbours... who happened to mention he's looking to get rid of his 87 300D with a 3.0 inline 6 turbo diesel. I have to say I am very intrigued by this project...

Today I got around to installing a WARN m8000 in my ARB Prado bumper. I still need to buy some synthetic rope and a fairlead, but otherwise it is ready to go. The solenoid pack is mounted in the "W" cutout in the front of the bumper. The total added weight is a little under 50lbs.

I sleeved the frame bolts with some old suspension bushings so I can get them tight without bending the frame. In the future I may weld a cap on to keep it from deforming during side pulls.

Here is the bumper dismounted and ready for the winch.

The solenoid pack fits into the "W" cutout perfectly, but I don't have the ARB bracket to hold it in place.

The great thing about this mounting location is that all the stock wires are the perfect length. I was a little worried about exposure to the elements and putting the ~7lb solenoid so far forward, but it is worth it for the easy install.

A friend and I made some brackets out of steel plate to hold the solenoid in place. The bottom bracket mounts to the factory holes, and the top bracket mounts to the light's mounting stud.

No more weird "fanged" W hole in the bumper.

Installed low profile fender bolts/screws to address rubbing with 285/70/17 Duratracs.

For front:
M12 3/4 inch screws with 5/16ths washer

For rear:
M6 16mm x 1.0 thread pitch machine screw with 5/16 washer

Both had tapered heads. With the 5/16 washer, no need to chamfer inner diamter of the washers.

Used stainless steel in all cases.

Next stop is pinch weld.

i heard about folks replacing screws and bolts to help with rubbing... i think have to get oput the dremel and go that route and if that does not work i heard of a place that actually has counter sunk allen heads.

Yesterday I replaced the fuel filter and the day before I finally got around to throwing the set of ceramic pads on that came with my PowerStop from rotor kit. If anybody is debating getting it or not, I highly recommend it. I also sanded a spot of rust on my rear hatch and a spot under my right tail light to bare metal, painted with POR15, and will be seam sealing the tail gate lip and painting for the first time tomorrow.

Northwest Road Trip comes to an end

I took my Runner on a 2,500 mile trip from Sacramento to Portland, then up around and all through Olympic National Park, and then all the way down the coast to Mendocino, and then across 128 East back to Sacramento. I went offroad in 4wd 4 times, each for about 10 to 30 miles. Nothing serious, just dirt and gravel with some fairly light holes and rocks, and up and down some pretty steep hills + one minor but fun excursion onto the soft sand beach at Pacific City, OR. The truck was amazing. Those Billies and OME combinations are great, IMO. It rides like a truck, but oh so much nicer and more confident and quiet than before. What is really amazing to me is that this Runner has 253,000 miles on it. It ran like a top on this trip. It has gone 2,700 miles since its last oil change. It has not used a drop of oil, and it still looks clean on the dipstick – just starting to change to a little more amber color. My platform/storage mod was outstanding in every way. Except for staying one week with my kids, and 2 nights in motels, I slept very comfortably in the Runner every night. Changed oil in both diffs, transfer case and transmission.
Cleaned throttle body
Fixed broken mounts on the air box so it's not rattling around and I'm not sucking dirty air.
Found broken sway bar mount.

Installed new LED lights in the dome and cargo fixtures...super bright and took less than 5 minutes. Plus they were only $5 from Hong Kong.

Yeah 680 i think for a group deal....Talk to Vin, hes amazing! super nice guy to work with. The wheels are even nicer IRL. SO far this is my only set of wheels that i have ever bought brand new...and i got to admit they are pretty sick!

I have some major updates coming to the runner....
Finishing rear bumper...installed my AFE intake and got rid of the K/N...hopefully that helps with my Lean Code.
I also will probably be doing the tundra upgrade this week. And possibly get my springs on before pismo this weekend...

I cut down my Kargo Master "Safari" rack to fit better. It was too wide and just didn't look right even after I flipped the top cage around. They are made for a Jeep and are 52" W x 60" L, which doesn't fit the 3rd Gen at all.

I also remounted it using the mounts that came with it, by reusing the factory rail "nuts". Way better than mounting it to the factory cross bars which didn't look good at all.

I cut the base down 6" on each side and cut 10" out of the center. I bolted the top cage back together and now it fits just right.
