what did you do to your 3rd gen today?

I have a 96 SR5.4Runner that has some issues. Have a question for all of you gearheads, coming from a non gearhead..
Here are the issues I have:

A rusted out rear axle housing
I am guessing a torque converter going
Antifreeze leak with no milkshake.
Body is rusting, Michigan truck so it will have some

My question to all of you is. Is it worth my time to spend the money to get all of this work done?
Engine is sound, have 242,000 miles on it.

Oil change (Royal Purple 5w30 and M1 filter).

First time I changed it as I just bought it in October. The filter is easy enough to get to via the wheel well but as others have noted it is very difficult not to spill a bit removing it. I'm glad I removed the skid plate first. I also noticed the PO did not use a crush washer. No big deal but I remedied that.

Took my 4runner across Texas. From Laredo to Brownwood to Odessa to Austin.

Went from hot and dry weather to cold and windy.

Took the seats down to be able to sleep in the back.

Finally broke down and had my starter rebuilt. I took it to a local shop and has them do it been busy and I did not have the time. He replace the brush and contacts and plunger and one other thing only cost 40 buck and he even put and nice coat of paint in it. It was a pia the take out. Should be good for another 242k.
 
Drove her for the first time since I started my timing belt gone wrong job 6 weeks ago. Also, put in a die hard platinum battery.

Fixed my lumbar switch sort of. It turned out that the switch was not the culprit but instead the wire that runs from the switch through the frame of the seat to the motor. Over the years it became twisted and would not allow 12v to pass to the motor. Untwisted the wires, found the kink, snaked the wires a new way and it is good to go.

Once my seat is recovered, then some sort of internal holder so the switch does not pop out will be made.
 
Took ours on a 10hr drive from Fortuna, CA to Bakersfield, CA. Only change was the 35w DDM HIDs. They were amazing on the drive. Decided to fully trust the Ultragauge's Distance-to-empty feature and it didn't disappoint. All-time mpg average is about 18.2 as of right now.
 
finally spent the money on much need parts.$400+ for lbj's,ite's and ote's..bummed because i already did that on the old truck and this christmas bonus money could have been sliders.... =-(


i suppose it's better than a wheel falling off though...i just hate doing the same work twice....
 
I fixed my headlight issues and finally got the 4Runner state vehicle inspection done, but I was 20 minutes too late to the DMV to register the truck here

Spent my Jr. High and Highschool years in Fortuna! Small world. Travel on 101 or I5?
