today I swapped the center console in my '96 for a newer matching (color-wise) version with center cup holders; I used my existing eBrake and rotated it 15° toward the passenger side and had to drill and tap a new mounting hole for the bracket; I also had to move my existing rear cupholder over to the new console, but the new console already had the ash tray and rear heater control, so those were just plug and play; later tonight after the Super Bowl is when I plan to relocate and rewire the rear window up/down switch....

Well over the last three days I have....


Added some ventilation to my skids

Painted skids, sliders and bumpers!

And added the 13" LED bar on front and the 2, 2x6 LED's up top!

Washed the Runner. Cleaner wax, regular wax, found out vinegar and water will take the streaks out when your done waxing, put the radio bezel I got from Mattgold in, put away the spare tire crank I got from nissanh (thanks guys), cleaned out the crap from the inside. put my black parking lights on, decided to keep them, found my OEM heads, thinking of starting a crazy project. Got a head ache from too many chemicals inhaled:dizzy:

Gave up on my oil relocation kit

Finally got around to installing an oil relocation kit in my '96. Took a lot to get it installed, and then, when I started it up, it had a small leak in the adapter on the block. At that point, I gave up and took it all off, and put the filter back on the block. What a pain. I still think it's a good idea, and may try it again after I recover from this disappointment and when I'm in the mood again. At least I can drive my 4Runner again.

Went snowboarding with my new-to-me truck. She did very well for being stock! Went up to Schweitzer in northern Idaho, about 3 hours north from WSU in Pullman, WA. Great trip with the girlfriend and friends. I'll try to post some pictures of the mountain later, didn't get any pictures of my truck sadly :/

Making steady progress on the massive job of sound deadening. Replacing speakers and speaker wiring as I go.
Rear hatch and rear doors are finished. Polk dB521 speakers in the rear doors. Raamat and PS Ensolite throughout for deadening.

Ramaat layer complete on front right door, wires run and INFINITY KAPPA 60.9CS mostly installed. Glue drying on the tweeter pod for a day before I pop that in place. Lacking only the foam layer.

I've done this project on the 4Runner already but will be doing it on my Lexus soon. I did the 4Runner in 2007.

BTW, I'm surprised you had to cut and glue the tweeter holders like you did. I've done this twice on the 4runner, once with Reference and then with Kappa components and I just placed the tweeter behind the plastic. Most tweeters allow the plastic to come off making it easier to place it behind the 4Runner plastic tweeter holder.. I used 3M mounting tape to hold in place.

Yes, once I get a bit further along I will post a thread with more in depth info. I took sound readings before starting work....94 dBm at 70mph. 74dBm at idle. It's fatiguing to do road trips with that much constant noise. RAAMaudio - Automotive sound deadening products was the vendor for deadening materials. Still to go, roof, floor, cargo area, firewall. Also, adding a 5 channel amp and running power and coax for future CB instal. By the end of it all, I will be intimately familiar with my 4runner. Not a single speaker fit the factory cutouts. Each has required cutting, grinding, adapters or spacers to work. Fun project so far.

Yes I did have to use a small spacer and some 3M mounting tape to get the Infinity tweeters to fit. With The Kappa tweeters it is easy to disassemble outer shell of the tweeter leaving a smaller part that you can then mount or glue behind the factor covers.
