Retro 4WD Decal.

If that semi new failing OEM ball joint hasn't been kicked to the curb yet, now is the time after this.

The ball joints actually were not too bad ... these guys on the other hand were in pretty desperate need of replacement!

Well I don't post on here much. But I got around to mounting my rigid dually spot on my roof basket. I got them at a pawn shop by my house brand new in the box for a 100 taxes in. My buddy scored bigger with a set of D2 driving for a 100 as well!!! Lucky guy. Week before was my light bar in my grill. Those bottom fogs are gonna be turning into my back up lights. I tried uploading of more photos but for some reason I can only upload one?? Any help on that would be great

Came apart way easier than I thought it was going to. Had to fight the ABS sensors, but they made it out. Bearings were trashed, off to the driveline shop, they said hopefully tomorrow if not Monday.

Weeeee.

Installed Light Racing UCAs and added Energy Suspension bushings to my new Safari rack. Had new bearings pressed into the steering knuckles.

On a scale of 1-dammit, how hard was the UCA install?

Pressing the old ball joint out and pressing the new adaptor in were far and clear the only difficult parts to the entire install. It was the first time i had ever used a ball joint press and it took some learnin'.

Super easy. I do have a no rust truck.
Just had to move a few things out of the way in the engine compartment to slide the bolts out.

Pressing the old ball joint out and pressing the new adaptor in were far and clear the only difficult parts to the entire install.

I used a 2 jaw puller to get the UBJ out of the old UCA. Easy. Then I used a 3 jaw puller to get the ball joint separated from the knuckle. That part was a pain. I had to rig up a "jig" to keep the ball joint from rotating. It pays to have the right tools on hand. I, on the other hand, just had to make do.

NateMob I realize it's a little too late to be asking this now, but how do you like your LR UCAs?

I just used a pickle fork to but it loose from the uca since i knew it was getting scrapped, then i too used a 3-jaw to get it out of the knuckle. Correct tools? They are too damn expensive! lol

Regarding what i think of them? At first the idea of being able to adjust them to get a perfect alignment sounded great but the fact that i have been constantly dialing in my front suspension after adding the full skids and then the bumper and winch means that i am constantly changing my geometry up there. i.e. Dialing in more preload on my coilovers to make up for the extra weight or just to try and remove the rake i have from swapping in new rear coils. Making a new alignment an almost monthly thing since any change in weight or height throws shit off. I have been seriously considering pulling them and going to a fixed uniball arm. Less hassle and no worries about unbolting the uca and ruining my alignment, if you arent constantly wrenching on the front end, no big deal. I have nothing bad to say about them, they dont limit my flex at all, they are quiet and they have withstood lots of abuse.

I would like your opinions on your Cooper stt's. Looking at them in a 295/70/17...

A pickle fork is one of the tools I don't have. And yes, special tools are expensive.

Thanks for the info about the UCAs. I almost pulled the trigger on an Icon or Camburg setup, but decided against it mainly because of the cost.

I really like the STTs. They're a great looking tire. They're also very capable offroad while still being road friendly. I have the 265/75/16 which is only offered in an E rating. I wish they had one in a C rating. They've worn evenly over the last year until recently. For some reason my front tires started having a little uneven lug wear. Not terrible, but it's made the road noise a little louder. That could be attributed to several factors besides tire quality, but I haven't figured it out yet.
