What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Started installing my remote start system. Pretty much all done, just needed one more relay... Got surprised by my door locks being positive, and not negative. Was betting on negative.
 
Did a little bit of exploring today.

The output flange where the driveline bolts up is almost impossible to get past there. Had to use a pry bar to flex out the motor mounts to make it slide by. Just paid $300 today to have it put in while I was working, didn't wanna dick around with it again.

Talk about easily defeated! I have done multiple solo installs/removals with the vehicle just up on jackstands. I will admit, it can be a 8itch/challenge depending on how you look at it.
 
I installed Bilstein 4600s on all four corners today.

Word of advice to anyone replacing rear shocks on a 3rd gen...don't bother trying to loosen them, just break the dang things off. Remove the lower bolt so you can pull the shock towards you as far as possible, then rotate upper body with a pipe wrench or a large channel locks 180 degrees then bend again and repeat this procedure until it snaps off. I think the install would have been a lot easier with a swivel end ratcheting wrench for final tightening. I was able to get most of the "slack" out of it by using a 5mm hex driver on the end of a 3/8" ratchet and a combination wrench holding the nut. Final tightening was done by the combination wrench. A 14mm ratcheting wrench would have been convenient on the fronts too. There is one of the three top plate bolts that was hard to get to with any thing but a combination wrench.

As far as performance I think the shocks are great and not even close to what some people were describing as a stiff ride. I think it rides smooth as heck. How do some people come with this their opinions I will never know. The factory ones were pretty tired I admit. All four had very slow rebound time and the driver front has been puking it's guts out for about a month so it was time.
 
Well i installed the front springs with one 881 and added 10mm spacers to the 906. Also lived the whimpering annoying ujoints. They made noise but it feels tight with no play. :)

Where were you [MENTION=89223]xcmtb83[/MENTION] when I was doing my diff then? I would of loved to see you make it look easy. And I did it the first time with my runner on jackstands also, didn't want to do it the second time because I was given the wrong gears. I did it the first time and was more than happy to pay to have it done again and save me the hassle. If there are any trade secrets you have, please fill me in. I definitely would of appreciated the help.

I never said I could make it look easy. It's just I would never pay $300 for someone to install one for me. $300 is a lot of money to me.

You gear comment is confusing...

I have no trade secrets, just brute force and ignorance.

installed a Carr Light Bar with 4 Appolo's from KC lights, its old school with the non led lights I know but I just don't like the look of the led bars. No offense to anyone who has one

Jk haha, post up some pictures. I'm torn between led and regular offroad lights.
 
I installed an air horn since the stock horns sound like a child's bike. I had to honk at two different jackasses on the freeway the other day and felt that the measly stock horn did not properly convey my displeasure with cars merging into my rig in the HOV lane. Used the stock horn lead to power the compressor and added two long horns opposed under the front bumper..... You can hear me honk now. I think eventually I will put a train horn in. Sure they're obnoxious, but you know they're rad sounding too! I'll put those on their own trigger tho.

Contemplating a headlight upgrade and driving/fog light upgrade this afternoon. I also have a throttle body spacer to install.....so much to do and still hasn't seen any real dirt yet.
 
I replaced the passenger side sway bar link tonight. I had been hearing a thunk when turning and going over bumps (and especially when doing both at the same time) so when I finally got a chance to take a close look I saw that one of the nuts had somehow come off. Not sure how that happened but the link was simply "hanging" down and not connected at the bottom. Weird.
 
Worked on my rear storage system.



Going to be sub box on the left, covered storage on the right with access to the stock cubby hole. Then 2 drawers in the middle with my spare on top.
