What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I did the 231mm Tundra brake upgrade today. Went very smooth if it weren't for the one out of spec factory rotor. New one ordered from Camelbak.

Also installed a set of stainless braided brake lines up front.

I finally conquered the stuck lower ball joints and got the Camburg LT front end installed. Still have to mess with the rack extensions, fix a broken brake line, and mount the reservoirs.

Did some painting projects. First I painted the D shackle red and added a tow arrow (I'm really into Rally racing so I did my own little touch). Then with Dupli-Colors Perfect Match paint for Imperial Jade Mica I painted the rear wing and the Hella covers. In case you're wondering it not a PERFECT match but its damn close. I plan to get more for my next two big projects; roll bar installation and interior trim.

Installed a braided stainless brake line in the rear to match the two in the front and power flushed the entire brake system twice. Getting the flusher on the brake fluid bowl and sealed was a pain in the butt, but it went pretty smooth after that. The brake fluid was a medium amber color at the start of the flush and it was clear at each wheel when I was done.

FYI. The tundra brakes take an 8mm for the bleeder nut instead of the 10mm that the 4runner has. Luckily I had a deep 8mm socket since I didn't have a flare nut wrench in 8mm.

not strong enough to haul an axle around by myself. Once I got it to the truck the wheels came off and I used a floor jack to get it under and in place.

The yellow ring is the rear diff mount bolt. It's a photo from another post. Anyway, dif in

Oxygen sensor seal replaced & clamps on cat

I replaced oxygen sensor (one after 2nd cat) seal but story behind it, is wired. A week back, my truck start making rattle noise from underneath, when I was on signal. few days back I asked dad to put the truck in drive and push the brake (that when rattle sounds comes). I pushed my foot on second cat and noise was gone. So, I figured out it is cat heat shield which is making that noise.

The mechanic, I really like is about 1 and half hour from where I live. Somebody suggested my dad a new mechanic just 5 mins from us. My truck was requiring a oil change, so he took my truck for oil change and also to get suggestion on rattle noise. When he came back, he told me that mechanic suggested that there is issue with whole cat thing and requires 400+ to fix.

Yesterday, when I was driving, suddenly truck started making loud noise, which you get when your exhaust system is broken. I pulled over to check but noticed noting. So, after reaching the destination. I went under the truck and here is the picture of what I saw.

Now I have question. Is it possible for rusted nuts to break off or loose and fall off by them-self? (I don't believe that) or our new suggested mechanic made a excellent first impression??

So, did some cleaning there, replaced o2 sensor seal plus new nuts. Also put 2 big clamps on cat... but didn't test it. hope it is going to fix the rattle issue. I will check it tomorrow.

Hahaha! I've had that happen twice! On the same bump on the same road might I add. The rear sensor in 2006 and the front sensor in 2012. I googled it and found posts of this happening on other 4Runner's and Tacoma's. Use stainless steel nuts with antiseize next time. I guess it is a common failure point on flange-type oxygen sensors in the northeast.

Installed new lift gate and customized the OEM badging. Also did the spoiler delete mod in the process. It looks a bit odd without the spoiler, but I'll get used to it.

fixed my leaky non-working A/C... replaced the evaporator core, expansion valve, receiver/dryer and had it recharged. pretty straight forward, took a few hours total. from the looks of it the evaporator definitely needed to be replaced- 235k miles of dirt and grime:

I should probably try this. I ripped off one of my swaybar brackets on the last trail ride. Too much flex, I guess.

You should go the route I did and install new 3rd gen front links on the rear. I think it put the sway bar back at exactly the same angle it was at stock height.
