What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

An alternative spot for reverse lights is on the roof basket under the highest bar, look under the end cap on the roof rack rail for a no-drill-through-the-roof access spot. You would need to drill a hole in the end cap though.

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with. :)

I got some ideas but money is holding me back

Just bought the timing belt kit from amazon.com that you guys had pointed out with all the OEM parts along with a breaker bar and a socket adapter kit to make tackling the rear seal a little easier (and other maintenance as well for the 5 different vehicles currently in my stable).

How many dead bodies you got in that tarp up there?
None, this was the first real camping trip. Me, GF, Brother and our 5 month old about a 1000 mile rouns trip. All the tents, chairs, sleeping bags, first aid kit, luggage, camp accessories, surf board, shovel + all on the roof. Learned a lot on how to pack that trip! :)

Screwed up on coolant flush. Had run at about 212*F average winter and now with warmer weather since purchasing about 5-6k miles ago. Previous owner had green in it.

Bought new thermostat, gasket, and 3 gal of Zerex red coolant. Drained through radiator, then yanked lower hose, filled with distilled and ran for 15 min, drained, repeated same distilled water flush again and drained (was basically clear at this point). Went to yank thermostat, and one bolt wouldn't free... rounded it a little even. So, crap, filled with my Zerex and went for a drive.

Hit 217*F now romping on interstate where I was always 212*F (all things equal)... coolant overflowing from reservoir. Got up on a curb and bled system all over again, probably 20 minutes of idling and trying to get radiator to take more coolant. Hit 217*F again. Repeated this process for 30 minutes on another curb, hit 217*F once again.

Weird is that it cools down quicker now, like cruising around town it's lower (about 204*F) and will actually drop to like 199 at a light.. but once I open it up and it exceeds 212 it'll continue to get hotter at stop lights.

Maybe I got some gunk in my thermostat now, but damn... how in the hell am I going to get it off with an increasingly rounded bolt, and then lose $30 of new coolant? Ahg!

Got these in the mail for SUPER cheap. Unfortunately the UCA's are for Tundra's, but I'm rebuilding and revalving the coilovers and maybe picking up some UCA's depending on what I can get for the Tundra ones.

Worked on the truck on Friday and yesterday and got a few things done.

Had a new windshield installed.

Drained the tranny, dropped the pan, swapped my solenoids and put everything back together.

Replaced both cv axles. (first one took about two hours. Sheared a seized bolt and had to run pick up the second axle from a different shop. Second one took about 25 minutes. Ha ha)

I've never done any kind of mechanical stuff on my vehicles before so it felt pretty awesome to do some wrenching on my own. My brother has a ton of mechanical experienced (he swapped the head gasket and head on is 04' Audi in the same amount of time it took me to do my stuff) so he was able to help me out a bit, but I did most of it.

Should be good for a while though!

What is 'swapped the solenoids' mean? I mean I what solenoids are, but why would you have to do that?

I had a CEL and the code was for a shift solenoid "e" error. They weren't super expensive and the package I ordered came with all three that are in the valve body so I swapped all three while I was in there. No more CEL!

Built the harness last night and installed a Clarion NX603 (parking brake bypass today.......in a few months I want to install a backup cam). Factory speakers actually sound pretty good with this unit.

Replaced my dash clock.

Lastly, I pulled the blower motor and cleaned out a mouse nest. My A/C about freezes me out now!

ETA: I forgot. I also mounted my scan gauge in place of the ash tray. Much better than it rattling around the console
