I asked a lot of her today. Mother in law's Sequoia + trailer = 7500 to 8000 lbs. Time to drop the gas tank and throw in a fuel pump. I have to do something about this reputation I am getting as Mr Fix It. Had to cut off the skid plate. This thing must have spent a lot of time in the northeast.

After occasional "clicky" starts. she finally wouldn't wake up at all. Just click, click, click. Knew I couldn't afford a new starter so I ordered a repair kit and proceeded to spend 7ish hours (beer brakes, run to store for PB blaster and breaker bar) getting dirty under the truck myself. Replaced the contacts and plunger, but the hardware looked either newer or just in great shape so I got to reuse those and save some $. Write-ups on here saved my butt. Mostly fumbled with ratchet approach angles, which bolts absolutely had to come out etc. I am by no means a gearhead; slowly learning as I go. As is typical, could do this in a jif now but hope I don't have to for a long while. Biggest pains were replacing the exhaust bracket and dipstick bolts after I threaded them wrong and screwed them in halfway:mmph: oh and the whole one ratchet click at a time thing got old fast...

Glad it's over, and glad it worked: starts like a champ now!

I have a first gen.........
but i need to do this. All I can find is the contacts, not the plunger. where did you find yours?

Maintenance

Today was the first of hopefully many, getting my truck first to new status.

Pulled out the air filter box to clean out the mud and dirt. Realized I need a new air filter. Cleaned the MAF, and the throttle body to hopefully get rid of P0171.

Fished the broken lock cylinder out of the tailgate. Previous owner snapped it off. The original key was worn out and wouldn't release the final split tumbler. Had a new key cut that is wider. See below. It works and the lock now turns freely instead of being stuck by that split tumbler.

I plan on JB Welding the cylinder bracket back on over the weekend. Also sanding and painting the whole license plate surround. It's faded and cracked from sun damage.

Repair work

Today I remove the driver and passenger air bags and the module( both blown in a minor front end crash.) The steering wheel air bag was easy to remove. the module was a little more difficult. The passenger side air bag was a different story. I had to disassemble the right side of the dash and pull every module and plug from the dash and then pull the right side of the dash out a couple inches. I don' know how I am going to get the new air bag in. 1997 T4R

Got some new trail/camp tools today, wired up the tent, and repaired the MEGA fuse that I blew so I could have it as temp spare if need be.

Finally did the deck plate mod. Not a huge difference in performance, But it does sound more throaty when accelerating. I think I need to do the isr delete mod and I should se a difference as we'll with a KandN filter.
