Braking Issue ~ off pavement

Recently, I did 1K+ miles trip to SC/NC for camping. I had issue with the brakes. I was using a navigation system as guide but took wrong turn. Decided to take a U turn on two way road. My speed was 50ish and when I moved off the pavement I was at under 40, when I applied brakes, there was sound like I hit limit on brakes. There was slight reduce in speed but no stopping.. again pulled my feet and applied brake.. same sound/feeling.. again some reduction in speed but no sign of stopping... eventually it stopped mostly due to friction. It was really scary and thank God there was nothing in front of me. Side note, it was raining all day.

This is not the first time, I had this issue twice before and luckily there was no accident. Once on stop sign during rain, kind of emergency braking as I did see the sign and when I saw it I was at around 40... and other time on gravel road end up in small ditch 4x4 helped me to pull out.

After first two incident, I changed my front rotors and brake pads with Brembo rotors and ebc yellow stuff. (Tundra upgrade was bit pricey for me).

Any suggestion?

On this same trip I took wrong u-turn :frusty: and end up passenger front in ditch. Driver rear tire was 3 feet in air. 4x4 didn't helped. End up calling 911 and tow truck to pull me out.

Put some sweet lime green duct tape around my passenger inner cv boot... it's temp until my parts get here.:guitar2:

Today I replaced the cracked passenger turn signal (thanks BigFishAllDay), put my LEDs in the dome and cargo lights, and cleaned the windows.

Installed front/rear spidertrax and washed off the Prescott trail mud

Two oil changes, and then rigged up a redneck under hood LED light install using all spare parts lying around the garage.

Now off to recycle the oil and pick up a rocker switch for under the hood...

Suggestion: stop driving like an ******* and don't call 911 when you run in the ditch because you took a uturn at 40mph in the rain. What do you think you're driving?

Did a rear diff fluid change in the 97 SR5 2WD...

Have to keep her in good shape for when the daughter finally gets her drivers license. She is almost 17, and still no permit (which is required for 6 months before DL is issued here in AZ).

Is it just me, or are kids nowadays not motivated to drive, like some of us were?

One of my friend's younger brother is 17, has a free 2006 Ford Ranger at his disposal, got his permit to drive in SC but let it expire. His dad drives him to school and work. His girlfriend, who is 16 and quite the eye candy for the high school boys, has her mom drive her around as well.

When I was 15 I was aching to get out of the house and drive in 1994, but gas was $1.30 back then. The cost of living was much cheaper back then, before some took Gordon Gekko's mantra to heart here in the US.

My brother is 16 in April and I can't convince him to get his permit. All he has to do sign up for drivers ed. Super lazy.

My dad bought my 4runner when I was 16 and I wanted to drive it everyday but the deal was I pay for everything cause its mine unless I need a little help on maintenance but I couldnt get a job I tried everywhere I did alot of big oddjobs and still do and get paid good well I finally got it at 18....Alot of others I've heard from is there scared or they just don't care I will say I was scared to but I got over it cause im a American man :gun5:

I wanted to drive the day I turned 16, but the parents made me wait half a year so that insurance costs would go down. I've loved cars and trucks all my life, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on the wheel. I guess it all depends on the interests of the kid.

My parents wouldn't let me drive until I had a job. I had such a hard time finding a job but finally got one after junior year and here I am finally with my 4Runner. I've been planning on modding the 4Runner since I was in the 8th grade so I guess you could say it's about time

Kids these days would rather be chauffeured around so they could catch up on all of their social media crap. Back in the day all we wanted was a cool ride and a drivers license. All these kids today want is to be "liked" on social media.

Tell the kid that as long as you have to drive them around (because they were too lazy to get a drivers permit/license) they cannot use their iPhone while you are driving them. If this happens I think you will see a change real quick.

When did that become acceptable? I met a girl the other night and her place was closer but when I mentioned going back to it, she said her parents were home. I was like wtf? She was 25. It's not cool.
