What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Man am I sure glad the young generation all of the sudden got grouped together. If you look around, There is a clear divide. Those of us that work for what we have and are making an effort to get our degree or work full time and make it on our own. And then there are the asswipes who work part time and mooch of mommy and daddy. But don't categorize those of this generation that are actually working and educating ourselves with those people who are satisfied with mediocrity.

This past week I changed plugs and oil. Threw some spidertrax and Tacoma TRD wheels with Duratracs then drove straight to Tahoe the next day!

Everybody gets grouped together, "old people" middle aged...deal with it. The lazy d bags outweigh the dedicated hard working kids.

I think Taylor, at least from my view, is that everyone I knew in high school wanted a license and automobile. Folks here that are older perceive some teenagers who aren't frothing at the mouth to get their license as lazy, which is a bad assumption to make.

As far as my friend's younger brother is concerned though, it is being coddled more than anything. He was involved in a car accident two years ago at 14 that left him pretty rattled. Nonetheless it is time for him to get out of the diapers and put his big boy pants on IMHO.:thumb3:

Washed and waxed the 4runner in 72F weather. Not looking forward to the chill coming.

I couldn't wait to get my license. Got it in the morning, got home from school and before my dad was home from work I had cruised to Wendy's, a ladyfriends house and back home. :rockon:

I understand what you mean totally, I just don't want the hard workers to get mixed up with the dbags. But as [MENTION=115261]mxer[/MENTION] said, it is nearly inevitable. I have 2 brothers, one older and one younger who seem to be the same. They are content with putting in only enough effort to get by (and in the case of the older one, not even that!) and that's all. I digress, back to 4 Runners now!

Mine is getting it's oil changed 900 miles from it's usual spot. Hit 5,000 while on the road trip. Was going to wait until I got home (I always run full synthetic) but figured since my mom's Sequoia was at the dealer for a Timing Belt, I'd have them do my oil and filter. :spy:

It's funny how some of the people on here saying kids today are teens or young 20 year olds :dance: But my standers are like those of someone from the good ole days of working hard fear god and love your country........I cleaned up some under the hood of the 4runner.

Finally fixed the squeaking rattling issue, turns out that it was bad U-joints, replaced and rebuilt the whole shaft squeak is gone. NOW need to find a good aftermarket LCA's and fix the belts :car::car:

Is it just me, or are kids nowadays not motivated to drive, like some of us were?

It does seem more prevalent today, just based on what I've seen. I think kids in general are more coddled today than they used to be. There seems to be a distinct lack of will from Parents to push their kids to succeed. I see those low expectations from the Public Schools too. If little Johnny is enjoying his day, and feels good about himself, that's apparently more important than if he can read or write.

Growing up I had chores I was expected to do, along with my homework, or I didn't get to go outside and play.

I see lots of kids today that have no interest in playing outside. They just want to sit inside and play video games, or text with their friends on their phones.

An example is from my Brother-in-law. He owns or co-owns several businesses. He tells me constantly about the lazy kids that he tries to employ. One Business gets in several 53' Semi trailers worth of goods every week.

The latest is a 23 year old, that wants to Marry my 21 year old niece. He has known this kid most of his life. This lazy kid couldn't even hack a full day of unloading a trailer, before he quit. The sense of entitlement with this kid (and apparently most of his friends) is astounding. He thinks since he grew up in a fairly affluent area, that he'll just continue to have everything handed to him on a silver platter, for the rest of his life.

My BIL sat him down and asked him how he plans to support his daughter if they do get married. He actually said he thought he could move into my BIL's house, use their cars, and basically just be taken care of by my Sister and BIL. :rofl:

Talk about entitled, clueless, pathetic, and naive.

Needless to say my BIL told him he was in for a rude awakening.

To the poster that objected to teens and early 20's being referred to as "kids", a 23 year old that won't lift a finger to support himself, is a kid.

I really can't say much about the whole "mid 20's and living with parents thing". If it weren't for the fact that I joined the Air Force I'd probably still be living with my mom

Way cheaper than having an apartment, helps her with the bills, and there's nothing better than a mom's cooking!

I hate to admit I was living with my parents when I turned 30. I went back to school to change careers (tourism/transportation to IT) and I was poor and they had room. I moved back out again just as soon as I could afford it!

I also couldn't wait to get my license when I was 16. I love driving so much I did it professionally for 6 years.

It doesn't help matters that a kid can stay on their parents health insurance plan now until they are 26 regardless if they are attending school. This doesn't exactly motivate people to get off of their ass and find a full time job with benefits.

Yesturday took it out wheeling and got it all muddy. Today gabe it a quick whore bath with the pressure washer to blast off the large chunks of mud. :wave:

A not on the lazy kids these days...I just turned 32 in December. I had my first job when i was 13 my mom made me get a job every summer to teach me responsibility , learn the valve of money and save for a car when i turned 16. Sure I messed up, got into plenty if trouble as a teenager but by 19 i was becoming a hard working well round person... I think.... Now I own a house have a full time at the same company for 5 years and my last job I have for almost 10 years am happily married to my beautiful wife and am supporting my family.

Haha, totally get that. Love it while you've got it though, it's amazing what you miss when they're gone. Sure, I can make matzo ball soup and tuna sandwiches or hungarian goulash or what-all, I'm a pretty crappy cook, but it's just not the same.

Completely re designed the wiring to the battery. I put a optima red top 1000CA battery in my 97 and it was larger than my last battery, so the ground wire was just a few inches short that connects to the fender. So I added a longer one, got all new terminals and had to put a wood spacer on top of the battery to keep it tight and not flopping around on the road. Everything works better now. Dash lighting is brighter, it starts faster, heater works better too I swear.

Also added the Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer since I was a half a quart down. I could instantly tell the Lucas foes the trick as it immediately sounds so much quieter. I believe in Lucas Oil Products!
