What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Do you normally run with all that weight on the back with the tent etc? I actually like a good bit of rake in my vehicles, but i could see it being too much if you were to take the tent off and the back comes up a bit. She looks great either way though.

I do, yes. The tent is a huge PITA to take off with how it's currently mounted, so it will sit up there until fall when I will take it off and throw my snowboard rack on in preparation for the snow.

That said, I have some monster springs back there with some monster shocks... It sags about 1/2" with all of my tools, recovery gear, tent, and storage platform. Not much of a difference with it off/on.

And you say you have MPG issues? lol! Just a thought man.... but that tent and all that gear can't be doing your gas mileage any good. I personally don't find my tires to be that much of an issue. That being said... I don't have a whole lot of weight in the back of my rig.

I can tell you though... that when I was running my roof rack, I was burning up more fuel. The wind resistance was horrible...

B&M Trans-cooler installed. Bypassed the original...cooler temps and no threat of milkshake. Getting the original lines off was a PITA...even cutting them...but all worked out. Cheap insurance.

Installed a JVC radio with Bluetooth and Aux for the phone, I installed the mic on the steering tilt level and works great. I also replaced the O2 sensor to clear the CEL, but it hasn't gone off yet. I also pulled the gauge cluster and replaced the CEL bulbs that were blown, now I can see that light when it lights up.

I'm going to install the B&M cooler on Thursday and hopefully new shocks sometimes next month.

I picked up 5 new BFG KO2s in 265/75/16! Woot! I've only had a chance to drive them on the highway so far, but I think I have made a nice selection for my needs. Coming from stock pedestrian Michelin tires, things look and feel sweet.

Prepping it for a trip to Alaska next week! Bought a new-to-me 265-75 spare tire, got it serviced, washed, new wipers, new air filter, test fit a cartop bag to carry my tent-cot on the roof, got ratchet straps for said bag. :bounce:

Actually a smaller day here in Virginia Beach, about 2-3ish feet. We usually have to travel south to a variety of different breaks along Cape Hatteras where they'll be a bit bigger with much more consistency. If you click this link, you can see some of the expected waves down there during a little swell period... Hope to have many of those trips with many pictures coming as the summer progresses.

My son, his buddy and I put a transmission cooler on, no more worries of strawberry milkshake, especially since I just had to replace the transmission. Tomorrow we are going to get a set of factory rims with 33" Maxxis Bighorns mounted on them.

spent all day with it replacing the fuel pump only to find out at the end that the shop i just took it to last week for the timing belt screwed up the crankshaft pulley. Its halfway off and chewed up my belts. Who needs a beer? This guy.

Just hit 150k miles this week. Went to change the oil and saw I had a pretty bad valve cover leak. Got those replaced and while I was at it in there I gave her a long overdue tune up. Oh and just yesterday I got some new covers for my hella lights.

Honestly, my gas mileage has not changed by a noticeable amount from any of the weight gaining/wind resistance modifications.

The initial hit from the lift/tires, from about 18.5mpg "mixed driving", to 14-15 mixed, 17-18 on the freeway if I go 60 over a flat area, has not really changed... That's what I got a couple years ago without bumpers/gear/tent... That's what I get now. This is why I think so much of it has to do with the tires.
