What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

What the heck is all over your steering wheel? Is that grime or did you somehow manage to wear out the leather and that's what's left underneath? Ultra Gauge is cool though.

I bought it like that. It is only on the left hand side, so I am assuming it is from the sun wearing it out. Getting a nice leather wrap for it is on my list of things, but it is pretty far down on the list.

When I got my Runner from the previous owner, the steering wheel and gear shifter looked like they were worn down. The black was gone in many places. It was similar to the pics above, but not that bad.

I decided to give it all a good scrub anyways. To my utter disgust, what I thought was a worn out steering wheel & gear shifter — was actually just 18 years of baked on sweaty hand grime; underneath the hand grime was near pristine black leather.

Was pretty grossed out thinking I had driven the truck for a couple days before realizing it. Liberal amounts of hand sanitizer was used that day...

Hit it with some cleaner and let it soak a bit. See if it comes off! Might be some nice leather hiding under there!

Those are the ones I'm looking at too. I've currently got the previous guy's wheel wrap on there but it's large and ridged and not a big fan of it. Want more of a OEM look.

I found these on Yotatech and they seem to really like them. I like how you can kind of color match it to your interior. It is pricey but from the looks of it, really worth the money.

I did some quick cleaning on it and it didn't do much. I will have to really soak it one of these days and see if it I can salvage it.

Same thing happened with my wife's old Xterra. Was amazed at how nice her steering wheel actually looked once it was cleaned up.

When I got mine I scrubbed thinking it was grunge, but the leather really was worn out. I got a wheelskins cover. Takes about an hour to put it on and it has been nice new leather for the last 3 years.

Just hit a Pick-a-part and compared tank sizes. The focus was the most square that fit my depth requirements.

I love having it and it works great. Still have to wire up the fuel gauge to it and it is a PITA to fill.

Definitely sounds like a plus, but I could see the issue with filling it up. You could put in a deck plate through the cargo floor pan and find a filler neck to run from the auxiliary tank to the deck plate. Might help save some time.

I put mine in the fender-well like the Australian Long Ranger tanks, but the line is too flat. Need to gain some altitude or tie it in with the existing filler. I keep playing with the idea of using a manual exhaust cutout to direct flow since the Landcruiser ones are too expensive. Like this:

Installed and mounted my Ultragauge to my GPS mount. I used Ram parts and modified them so I can adjust the Ultragauge separately from the GPS.

Friday: Tore out the old timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idler, thermostat, and hoses. Removed the factory running boards.
Saturday: Installed new counterparts of the above stuff.
Sunday: Pulled out the entire rear seats, Built an elevated rear sleeping platform with storage.
Monday: Removed the entire front bumper, after ordering a tube winch bumper.

Today, ordering more parts, considering ripping off the fender flares.... Installed a CB radio instead. LOL

Put the upper ball joints in the spindles.

Put the abs reluctor rings on and tightened the hub lock nuts to 203 ft lbs.

Tomorrow:
hub bushings and the inner hub bearings, which I got from Off Road Solutions!

Boy am I glad to see they're back up and running!!! Mike has been helpful and very patient over the phone, would definitely buy from ORS again!

Now I just gotta not screw this up.....

Found two more plugged coolant lines from the stop leak the previous owner used. This stuff sucks.

Replaced the busted valve cover the po over torqued along with new valve cover gaskets, cam plugs, half moons, pcv, spark plugs and wires, new valve cover bolts. Tomorrow my silicone vaccum lines come in so I can replace all of them while I have the intakes off.

Finally got around to chopping my roof rack. Cut about 1.5" off.

Had the suspension upgraded to OME and Bilstiens, the ride home was nice and smooth. Didn't realize how much i needed them until they were installed.
They are not needed in the city, buy who ever buys stuff they need. maybe one day i can find some "offroad".
