I spent $2600 on all new suspension! New 2.5" King coil overs for the front with Camburg uniball upper arms and rear 2.5" piggy back Kings with the compression adjustments! Should be here in a couple days!!!
If yer talking at me on the 96 I've got a Sonoran Steel 1.2 and he's got a website you can look it up on. Not the cheapest, but the best for me and the type of stuff I do. On the 99 it's a stocker suspension-wise.
As for total cost on the 96? Welllll, time for you to do some researches. If you can turn a wrench and get a bit greasy it could be cheaper. A lift is the beginning of the hit to the wallet, again, depending on what you do.
Lots of info here to help you learn some hows and to check out people's builds and see what would work best for what you do. There's some really excellent stuff on here. It can seem overwhelming, but keep looking and reading and you'll get it squared away. That'll also net you some time to save some more pennies and get what you decide you really want.
I still think maintenance is first and foremost.
You do have a nice truck to start with.

Found some stuff to fix
As I'm still learning my way around my new 4Runner (and cars in general...) I was looking around underneath to start learning what all goes on down there. Came away with two problems, one easy, one I'm not sure about.
My front sway bar bushings are shot, so I'll order replacements of those and the sway bar link bushings that are looking old. Seems to me from looking around that if I can turn a wrench, I should be able to tackle that one without a problem.
I might also have an oil leak, though it doesn't seem to be a big one. Oil level hasn't changed too much over the last 1,500 miles, and I haven't noticed any dripping on the ground. I noticed the power steering rack had some oil on it, traced it up the bell housing (around the driver side), and that's where I lose track of what's what. But it is definitely coming from higher in the engine.
Does anyone have any input on what this might be, or where to look next?

Gave the 4Runner a break and used pedal power. Best way to get to the bar! Getting home may be a different story!

I wouldn't be surprised. You just know something like an OEM leather wrapped steering wheel is not going to be a reasonably priced item.

I looked into it at one point, and you're right on. I've been considering pulling mine off and having it recovered, but haven't had the down time. :lookout:

While walking down a trail late one morning we came across a bike laying in the grass. Odd.
Two miles later we came across a groggy just coming around guy (also laying in the grass) that belonged to said bike, which we directed him to.
There's prolly a lesson in there somewhere, but it escapes me.

I got very lucky - 124.99 on EBay. It was an impulse buy when I saw it pop up a couple of months ago. Finally got around to installing it.

You know, I have my old one which now needs to be recovered. I'd be up for donating it to someone who wants to get it recovered, and doesn't want the hassle of taking theirs off and waiting for the recover to take place.
As long as the trail was documented and the wheel was a pay-it-forward loaner, it'd be cool to see how long the chain would go.
Dallas Custom Steering Wheel (that plus .com for their website) charges $299 for a factory style recover - their work looks super-solid, but 299 was too much for me to handle considering all of the hassle. But with a spare wheel, someone else might be willing to take the plunge.

New Radiator!
Sitting at the dealer right now having a new radiator put in for preventative maintenance. A mere 248k and 17 years miles on the factory original before I chickened out; no pink milkshake for me!
I also got around to doing the TBU with the 13WL calipers last week and opted for stainless lines while I was at it - what an upgrade! :clap2:

Check out Redline Leather goods. I've never done a steering wheel wrap from them, but I plan to get one for the 4Runner eventually as mine is getting worn. I've got their shift boots and center console wrap in my Supra and they are fantastic quality. Real leather and beautiful stitching. Better than the factory stuff.
You can install the steering wheel wraps yourself if you are patient and have some attention to detail it seems, that way you can do it at your convenience.
No pictures of the 4th Gen?
