What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Scored a nearly new Scan Gauge II on Craigslist for $75. Wasn't planning on buying one but I could not pass up that deal.

Now I just need to figure out how I want to permanently mount it. I'm thinking I'll cut out the top of the steering column and recess it down inside so that it doesn't obscure my view. I saw someone else do that on this fourum and really liked it. Very clean and no wires hanging out.

Good deal on the SGII. I saw that post also but I would think twice about putting a knife to the steering column. The only two lights that are obscured on mine are the ECT and the OD lights. Mine is on the column with velcro. Not a huge fan but hate the thought of slicing into the column. My thoughts are if something "better" comes along to replace the SGII now you have a cut up steering column.

One step closer! Bumper is just about done. My MIG ran out of gas last night so I had to finish with my backup flux core. Needs a few areas touched up underneath to seal it up and then its time to paint. Oh and some pics of the sliders mounted.

Fell in love again...

I was out running errands in my '02 3rd Gen when I decided to stop at the dealership where I bought it a few months ago. I've been seeing a lot of 4th gens out on the road lately and wanted to test drive one. (I had no intentions of giving up my 3rd gen but you can never have too many 4Runners!)

I test drove a silver '05 SR5 4WD 6cyl. The ride was decent but as soon as I got back in my 3rd Gen, I fell in love all over again. :banana:

I also have my SG2 on the column, with velcro. No auto trans to worry about so it works well.

You can always get an extra top half of the clamshell cover, for experimentation.

Just picked up a 2000 Limited yesterday. So today was all about cleaning the inside and tomorrow will be starting on some of the regular maintenance things that are needed.

Yeah I hear ya, I just hate the idea of wires running all over my cab with various gadgets. So anytime I can hide things it's a win.

The way the guy had it was super clean and I figure that a replacement cover is just a junkyard away if I decide I don't like it or if I move to a different gauge.

Got some trailgear 58" sliders, extended them by 5" and welded them on. Changed my oil too.

Repainted my roof rack today. I used Duplicolor Bumper and Trim paint and I like the way it came out. The plastic parts I soaked in "Nano-protectant" (like Armor All) and they look like new.

How is it holding up long term? Doing mine now with the DupliColor Bumper and Trim now but was curious about how it stands the test of time. Have only down the base coat so far but noticed that it seems to be rubbing off on my hands when I went to move the rail (after it had fully dried). Wasn't sure if I should sand it down and use another product instead or if it would start to bond with the metal better after a few coats. Thanks for your input in advance!

Not sure if this counts, but I sealed the deal on my first 4runner. Picking it up Thursday after work. 1999, limited, sport hood, 3.4. New brakes, front axles, wires/plugs, timing belt is done, and lifted. Always been a dodge guy but I need something to camp out of. First plan is to install a new radiator and separate trans cooler. Then look at building a storage compartment in the rear. Anything else I should look into doing asap?
