Cleaned and prep 2 wheels

I started on 2 wheels while it was raining outside.
Color is rust-oleum high performance wheel steel color. Not a hyper silver or bright. And it matches the factory wheel covers pretty good.

replaced steering rack guide parts....helped a little but still have a mystery clunk i can't figure out! Also, found a tensioner for my alternator and threw it on.

How difficult was this for you? Any pics?

Yup, my total came out to $110 after taxes and shipping. The box is pretty big I think that's why it's expensive. My box was about 6' long. But it is authentic Toyota so I'm not sure if that matters to anyone lol

took about 10 mins...was very easy and I had a lot of rust on the og cover.
I heated it up with a propane torch for about a min then put the 30mm wrench on it and it turned very easily. Once its off, just throw the new pieces in. A dab of grease on the roller face and on the cap to hold the spring in place.

I had a bolt and some nuts laying around that i tightened the new cover down with. Its super simple. Theres a good thread if you look up "4runner steering guide replacement" thats what I looked at before I did mine.

Was getting ready to mix the paint and activator and noticed my activator is for 70* and below. So I guess I'll be doing it bright and early tomorrow as it's approaching 80 in my garage right now.

15 min after 3rd and final coat:

and starting to put back together several hours later. Painted the flares flat black again to refresh, and a bunch of other crap. Window seals, trim pieces, lost screws for damn near everything... ahh yea.

Things I learned: I don't have enough room with the garage door open to paint the roof without hitting the paint cup. So while I got the roof done, it'll be better when it's covered back up with a roof rack :thumb3:

This is flat desert tan acrylic urethane single stage automotive paint and a little unintentional texture that I actually like

Finally got my bumper on, after much procrastination followed by some crafty use of a floor jack:

4xInnovation fronts and rears, with some custom grilles (to screen the access ports until I decide to add a winch) and Rigid D2's with amber covers for winter nighttime assist.

Super happy with the bumpers, only regret is not getting the tire carrier on the rear--the spare won't fit underneath, which is a bummer but entirely my fault (I measured the tire width with the vehicle's weight on it, so it came in just under the 30" limit... of course, without the weight, it's just slightly too large. Damn.) So, no spare in the meantime, and likely a carrier later this year.

Put new tires, Yokohama Geolandar AT-S, 265/75R16, rubbing on full turn while moving, with stock suspension, seems like this tires are pretty big compared to other 265/75, specs say 31.9".

2001-05 Celica wheel swap. Used the airbag plug from the Celica clock spring and moved it to the 4R. Used my original cruise switch with some slight mods. It had one little wear spot on top so I added a fresh leather wheel skin. All went well except I cannot get the horn to work properly. Just blows continuously. I am sure its a simple solution but I took the fuse out for now until I do some research. Anyone else have this horn issue after a steering wheel swap? EDIT: Horn issue sorted out. Wire came loose when installing airbag, DOH.

I'm curious, is your 4Runner a 2WD? If so, I'm guessing you swapped out your original shifter. I own a 3rd Gen 2WD and would like to swap out my shifter like yours. I owned two Tacamo's, 2WD with the same shifter in the 4WD trucks. I like the look much better.

After a month of overthinking, finished my radiator swap... first time wrenching. After getting that F*** yeah feeling, I decided to do a bit of rust cleaning. the rear is fluid film, just never got a chance to do the front. but with the skid plate off I was able to see a bunch more things.

Found a hole in my frame near front cross member. Didn't realize that was a critical area. Kinda lost for words today... Letting it process for a few days. It's a small hole, but a hole non the less. Ill post pics get peoples opinion here this weekend. I know a few good welders to weld it up, but going to shift gears to make it last 2-3 more years, then sell it as is. Only 120k miles, probably in 2-3 years will only get another 10k miles, so I'm sure someone would take it off our hands for 2k in a few years when we got ever bit of life out of it or when we have money for a new one.

for those people who say 3rd gen's are rock solid, my wallet really begs to differ...

I have a 96, no rust "holes" on the frame and have only had to do basic maintenance, timing belts and replaced the Rad earlier this year. So yeah, solid and reliable... I just rolled over 300,000kms, which is roughly 186k miles so its still a baby compared to some of the others here. I owned a Jeep XJ before this, now you wanna talk about unreliable.....

I think 3rd gens are still pretty rock solid. Any 14 year old vehicle will have rust in New York, especially if the maintenance was lax. How many other cars that age are still driving around?

Congratulations on the radiator. The first project always feels good. Post some pictures, clean the area, weld it up, inspect everywhere and enjoy it.
