What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I took a whopping 2 minutes to finally snap in my switch for my TRAC disable mod/ aka Andy Mod. Switch fit perfect, was cheap, and looks good.

installed a new pcv valve and grommet. the grommet is a PITA! spent a few good minutes digging pieces of it out of the valve cover. also replaced the fuel filter. the previous owner told me the truck was in great shape, but after finally getting underneath the skid plates i believe him! 215k on the odo and not a single grease or oil leak underneath. zero rust. entire underbody looks like its been coated in bedliner or something. also installed a rear LED flood light on the bumper to help when on the trails and setting up in camp. also managed to break the camara on my phone in the process, as you can tell by the blurry picture

Did a little rust clean up on front end and frame

nice job bud its looks real clean, did you get all surface rust off first with a wire brush or how did you prep before the paint? and what did you use for paint? thinking of getting POR15 or Eastwood rust encapsulator stuff but its expensive! but once you do it right and throw some motor oil on it you should be good though so its worth it, i have a lot of surface rust

Traced some wires, trying to figure out the best place to tap into the turn signal lights. Does anyone have the 98 Wiring Manual handy? I have the 02 Manual, and there appear to be possibly significant differences in the wire colors (I'm seeing G-Y wires where the diagram tells me I should be seeing Y-G, and I'd like to double-check before tapping into them.)

I just need to look at the "TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD WARNING LIGHT" page specifically.

Other than that, waiting on more paint to finish up my mirrors, and cleaning as I root through wire runs.

Changed out my power steering fluid today. Big difference in color and smell. I ended up with the squeal afterwards like so many people had. It went away after a bit and I thought it was over. Then it came back for a few minutes. I'll check levels tomorrow.

Found a small hole in my CV boot on my drivers side, I was going to put some silicone over it and see if that holds. I'll be checking to see if the people who rebuilt my drive line will inspect and rebuild my original axels \ CV Boots. I'll swap them out once they're rebuilt (hope that solves a clunk that I can't pin down).and then I'll deal with my current ones. I'll use those for spares.

After that, spent some time cleaning up the engine bay, cleaned up the inside of the throttle body and fed the intake some Sea Foam. Ran that through and smoked up the neighborhood (at least there wasn't any bugs after that). Dumped the rest in the oil so I can change it tomorrow.

It's probably about time I change out my power steering fluid as well... What did you go with? And how did you siphon all the old fluid out?

Turkey Baster to suck out as much as you can. Remove return line and bag the nipple so you can refill the reservoir. Move the return line to point under the truck. I used a larger hose to direct it to a container. Raise up your tires off the ground. Top off the reservoir and turn your wheels all the way one directions. Top off again, and turn them the other way. Should be flushed around a quart and a half, hook it all back together and top off again. Will use two quarts total. Don't need to start the truck. Just turn the key to get power.

I dont think the labor will be worth while. It'd cheaper to buy new or rebuilt CV's than pay someone to rebuild them. I bought the kit to do it myself but I've just been lazy.

I needed wiper blades so I thought I'd try the Rain-X Latitudes because PEP-Boys has a $10 rebate going on. I've wanted to install 18" blades for a while now & they fit fine.
There's a lot of negative reviews about this wiper on Amazon & I dont think people even bother to read the instructions. You need to clean the window before installing these & run them dry on medium speed for 2-3 minutes.
No problem for me because I use Rain-X glass cleaner on my vehicles.
They worked ok on some light drizzle today but we'll see how they do with some heavy downpours & how long they last. For this price I expect to get a year out of them.

The last blades I had were the Bosch Clear Advantage & they were ok for the money, got 6 months out of them.
The blades before that were the Trico Force High Performance & they were amazing & lasted a whole year.

That's what I did with my second set and they lasted less then three years before I was told my driver side one has (and I saw it) a lot of play in it, and I think it's clunking now when I pull into my drive way.

So what's the source for good half shafts? I'm tired of O'Reilly's "lifetime warrantee" BS. I'm staying away from them as much as possible. I've read years ago about upgrades and such, but.... as I said it was years ago. I'll start searching also.

Thanks for you insight!

Wtf?!? I can't believe there are special instructions on how to operate your wipers! I have never once thought to look for directions when installing wipers — that's like having instructions for your new lightbulb...

I have Rain-ex wipers and though I apparently failed on the install — they work well.

Love my Rain-X wipers. I've had them for at least three years now and it's time for a new set. Even Alaska Winters. They work great in all rain situations.

I used a wire brush on electric drill and hand wire brush to get all surface rust then used rustoleum rust reformer and rustoleum primer 3 coats

My son and I got to go off roading for the first time yesterday! Sorry I don't have any better pics, but we were too busy having fun! We went to Tomahawk MX park in Hegesville wv, to Havoc at the Hawk. Big mud holes, a metal ramp 25 foot tall that went almost strait up and strait back down, hill climbs, a bunch of great trails and even had some cars there to run over!

These two trail pics don't do it any justice, because when I took the pics the trail is actually going strait down the mountain hil side.

Lots of fun and stress at the same time because i kept hearing my wifes voice in the back of my saying "Mark, don't break your truck" lol
