Nothing that really compares to the other stuff in this thread, but hey- its my first 3rd Gen 4Runner after driving a 1st Gen Tacoma (3RZ-FE) for the last 16 years, so some of it is new to me. The dash clock had fallen out behind the center dash trim plate, so I had to figure out how to pop that off. The FSM left out the part about the two screws behind the temperature/fan control plate, but I found 'em and got the plastic trim plate off without breaking anything and got the clock back in place and it is working (for now).

Also did my first 5VZ-FE oil change and holy crap what a pain in the butt. I anticipated the worst when I couldn't visually locate the oil filter and had to research its location, and unfortunately I was right. Oh well, I suspect next time will go better now that I know where everything is. I think if I get a 12" socket extension I might be able to go in from the side with a filter wrench attachment. pulling the skid plate for every oil change is kind of a pain. I still like driving a 5VZ rig better than a 3RZ and will learn to live with the PITA oil changes.

Probably one of the more mediocre posts in this thread...I washed mine. Its my first 4runner and Toyota that I've owned. Only 5 days in my possession.

I received my Haynes manual in the mail yesterday and now troubleshooting a few things.

Let's this Angel (Designated Driver) drive the rig for the first time since the lift and tires. She tucked me in and when I woke up, realized she had taken it instead of her Armada to Costco. Might be in the market for another 3rd gen...

Not OEM, plan on replacing both with OEM as well as UBJ and tie rods in December with my bonus. Miles idk I bought my 96 2.5 years ago with 220k now I'm at 258k.

Threads stripped, idk how it happened. I was backing out of my parking space went 10ft forward then it dropped.

Aftermarket or OEM that failed? How many miles on them?

Discovered my tension bolt under the alternator broke. I'll call Toyota in Anchorage and see if they have any in stock. I'm scratching my head wondering how this would happen. It was sheered off like it was under high stress. It wasn't too tight so I'm confused. Of course NAPA and another Parts Store couldn't locate it so I'll see how long my truck is down due to a $3 part.

The one that broke is the short one, part number: 16385-62020. I'll just get several of them so I have it on hand just in case. The longer bolt is: 90119-08493, and I plan on getting a couple of them as well.

Bought It

I bought mine yesturday. 1998 SR5 5-speed with 195k miles. It has some rust on the driver side that I plan on sanding down and spraying some bed liner. Also the rear bumper bearly exists due to rust. Need to replace that and the O2 sensors and it should be good to go.

Built a platform for my trunk so I can strap down my tools and other stuff in the back. Got sick of chairs rolling around. Also bought some 3/4" conduit to build a roof rack. Might start on that tonight. Need to go mount my CB and tune my antenna this week too since my wiring for my amp and sub came in. I only want to tear the dash back apart once.

Mine did the same thing when I was changing out my timing belt. The guy at the parts counter at my local dealer keeps at least two in stock.

Lucky you! LOL, I just got off the phone with the Anchorage Dealership and it's a special order item so they're saying a week and a half out....

Just called Toyota of Dallas and they didn't have it either and shipping office was still closed so I don't know how long it would take them to get it to me.
When I order, I was going to get several of them just in case.

I have a little junk yard near here but I never see any Toyotas in there. I was going to stop by and see if he's got something hidden that I haven't seen to get me by.

Once again, Toyota of Dallas pays off. Will be shipped to me tomorrow and should have it Friday or Saturday I'm thinking. And even with shipping, it was still cheaper (and faster) then going through Anchorage. I bought two sets of the two bolts (even though I only needed the one adjustment bolt).

That's what I did with my second set and they lasted less then three years before I was told my driver side one has (and I saw it) a lot of play in it, and I think it's clunking now when I pull into my drive way.

So what's the source for good half shafts? I'm tired of O'Reilly's "lifetime warrantee" BS. I'm staying away from them as much as possible. I've read years ago about upgrades and such, but.... as I said it was years ago. I'll start searching also.

The Napa Maxdrive "new" not rebuilt seems to get the most positive reviews on here. That's what I'm running but I dont have enough miles on them to really comment.
Also the rebuilt OEM's seem to be good but pricey.

Wtf?!? I can't believe there are special instructions on how to operate your wipers! I have never once thought to look for directions when installing wipers — that's like having instructions for your new lightbulb...

I have Rain-ex wipers and though I apparently failed on the install — they work well.

Not quite like a lightbulb. The wipers have the rain-x coating on them so the glass needs to be clean & run dry to put the coating on the glass.
