What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

97 4Runner - Long day upgrading and doing maintenance. Changed the LBJ to toyota OEM LBJ. Previous owner installed moog LBJ. Changed both outer tie rod due to torn boots. Upgrade front brake to SS brake lines. Flushed brake fluid and changed to DOT 4. More to come: change/upgrade rear SS brake lines, front sway bar link bushing, rear panhard, 285/75/16, rock sliders, front/rear steel bumper, roof rack, on and on and on!!!

Followed [MENTION=44220]BigFishAllDay[/MENTION] 's write up to replace my leaking output shaft seal on my t-case. Quite painless. I DID however push the seal in too far and had a hell of a time pulling it out of the t-case. I recommend NOT doing that.

Even with the hiccup, I was in and out in just over an hour.

Well, I must have damaged the seal when I pushed it past the mounting surface and had to dig it out. Leaking again.

Hopefully the second time around it'll go better. I am going to re-use the nut this time. I looked at it after taking my old one off and I didn't see ANY damage to the threads or anything that would cause me to believe I couldn't re-use it the first time.

[MENTION=101600]hour[/MENTION] i had a fuel filter problem on an old mazda turbo 5spd 626. It would cut out, fall flat on its face hard enough to take your wind out when accelerating hard. I always thought it was electrical until i replaced the entire spark system and was still baffled. Glad you got your mojo back.

Gotta change my fuel filter too.

Sounds like fuel cutoff. When the MAF gets over run when you have a major boost leak.

Its felt like fuel cut off due to boost leak, but it wasnt. It would drive highway all day long, but go to punch it and leave it floored in 5th gear and it would act funny. But you could boost it at lower speeds, even squak the tires and it wouldnt faulter. Also, no MAF on the 88 mazda 2.2turbo

Anyway, fuel filter for the 4runner is on the short list for today!

Ok this was technically yesterday, but still.

Got a pair of 2005 Sequoia Calipers (231mm) and rotors from a P & P here in Houston for $80 cash. Throw in a free rotor turn (my dad works at a mechanic), caliper rebuild kits, a new set of AutoZone pads, brake fluid and cleaner and I'm all in for the TBU (or more accurately SBU) for $130. Not too shabs.

Now to find time to install...

Rear shelf

Built a rear shelf this weekend.

Not as pretty as some I've seen on here but pretty functional and under $30 or so.

Used pre-drilled angle iron so I'd have something to hook bungees to to secure stuff. I covered the exposed "edges" in wire loom for looks and to protect from that semi-sharp edge. Overall it covered the subwoofer box and I put high enough to get some specific size containers I have above and below. Built it so I can still get into my storage compartment and can take it all off with a few bolts. So much better for space. I can get all my wheeling gear underneath including my air tank, and still have the upper part for family luggage, ski gear and whatever.

Ya just the plastic it was easy to access behind there by just pulling that panel a bit. I used some big washers on both sides to give it support but between the large diameter (but short length) bolts and the big washers on both sides clamping the plastic, it's VERY stout overall.

I thought about putting some "legs" in the corners instead of going through the plastic but it didn't seem to gain me much as this is so stout and I don't plan to carry much more than 50-80 lbs on it though I think it could support a lot more. Even the little wood "legs" I have on the wheel wells aren't really needed. The angle iron is stout and I used 3/16" plywood covered in carpet which is more than adequate for the weights I'm planning. I didn't even have to put in a center ridge. But again, all the heavy stuff like my CO2 tank, recovery gear, tire chains, etc. and all go underneath.

I did think about drilled aluminum sheeting for the actual platform instead of the wood but wow is that stuff expensive. So carpet covered wood it is. I did take the time to round the corners on the wood and sand all the edges etc. first.

Went camping this Memorial Weekend with a few people and wheeled the rigs body has a 4runner seen in the picture. We were aired down to 10 psi climbing some pretty crazy stuff till he popped a bead we had to winch him down keeping him on his tire so we could work on it... Also installed and painted my predator hoops.
