Just got the call to go pick up my T4R at the shop. She's ready!
I usually like to do my own wrenching, but I just really didn't have the time or willingness and I needed to get this done before the snow flies.
Upper Ball Joints (Toyota) - Check
Lower Ball Joints (Toyota) - Check
Outer Tie-Rod Ends (Toyota) - Check
Inner Tie-Rod Ends (Moog) - Check
CV Axles (Cardone Select) - Check
Brake Calipers (Armature DNS 2000) - Check
Brake Flex Hoses (Pronto) - Check
Caliper to Flex Hose hard lines (Fabricated) - Check
3 Fan Belts (Toyota) - Check
I had bought Toyota Front Wheel Bearings too with instructions to only change them if necessary. They inspected them and listened to the rotation with a stethoscope. Still smooth as butter apparently. So, saving on some labour costs there.
Although.. I was delivered some bad news. It does seem like my Runner's frame is starting to succumb to the cancer. Upon inspection, they noticed soft spots and perforation on the inner part at the gas tank. I regularly inspect my frame, especially at the trailing arm mounts.. but never made it a point to sneak a peek between that gas tank and frame there. Shame.
I'll start looking into who could patch this up for me and try to make her last another 5 years or so.
I think there's still plenty of fun to be had with it in the meantime.
I just gotta switch gears now and not let my anal retentiveness kick in. From now on, I need to consider her terminal and only fix stuff when it breaks rather than do all sorts of preventative maintenance.
Oh yeah, I also have 2 leaky Tokico Trekkmaster shocks and my exhaust is on its last legs.
I'm really happy that I can sleep easy about the front end though. Almost all of the boots (UBJ, LBJ, CV) were torn for God knows how long. I cringed at every pothole.
So I guess next up is for me to install the front sway bar, replace the shocks and get a proper alignment all while looking for a good welder.
