What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

*Swapped out spline lugs for standard size with locks.
*Picked up new ARB twin air compressor.
*Alarm kept some meddling a-hole from breaking into my 4runner. (I was inside practicing with my band, didn't hear alarm. I came out to find a bottle of beer on my hood and a roof shingle under my passenger side wiper as well as a little muddy hand prints on driver's door. Grrrrrr :mad2:
*Came home and washed it.... Just in time for it to begin to rain again.

I think I will begin to look into a vehicle camera and a kill switch.

Last weekend:
Had been running rough occasionally for a while, but was getting way worse recently.. misfire on 2 cylinders. Replaced plugs and wires. Running Great...

This weekend:
Thursday it was running rough again, but not like it did with misfires. Misfires made it jerky and less power... this was way way way less power, but not jerky. Rear o2 sensor was bad. Replaced it yesterday, running great again.(Edit: Just kidding, it's not running great again.)

The bolt closest to the body was a pain to get off... I was able to tap an 11mm wrench onto the other (rust made it not go on easily), but I couldn't get a hammer close enough to do that on the other. Tried a 12mm Husky wrench, too big. Tried a 7/16, too big. Yet a 12mm Husky socket did fit it.... Question Husky tolerances now!

Future:
Oil leak, not sure if valve cover gaskets or rear main seal... it's not a fast leak. Going to tackle it in the spring. Also, while trying to find the oil leak yesterday, I noticed the bottom right of my radiator has a leak too. Looks to be leaking around the fitting for the hose on the bottom right (where the fitting screws into rad, not where hose slips on).

It's getting a new TB and rear main seal along with new plugs,wires,synthetic oil,thermostat and a new fuel filter.
I had a friend give me his lightly used Volant intake so I'll see if it's makes a diff over the deckplate.

I'm also swapping the starter and alternator since I just installed those in the last 3 years and this past January I did a new radiator and exhaust along with new brake rotors and pads so it's like I've re-bought my truck as a really solid used 4Runner for the roughly $4500 this has cost this year. Still worth it since solid 3rd gens aren't geting more common.

Definitely jealous! For two reason..
1. Always loved the pics of your 4Runner you've posted over the years... 99 springs always looked as tall/taller than my PP springs! -And the IJM is my second favorite color.

2. I would love to do the same thing to mine, but the rust just prevents me from putting too much $$$ into it.

Just this summer I replaced the carpet.. and already had a pin sized hole through the drive side floorboard. I just patched it up with JBWeld, sanded as best I could, and painted the floorboard.

How long and how many pulls do you have on it? It's between the TS11500 and the Engo 12000 for me at this point. They both did really well in the 2011 winch shootout so I'm looking for real world experience from users.

Costa Goodyear floor mats...$14, ready for winter if it ever comes this year. Used a piece of the old floor mat to cover the hump so the kiddos don't muck it up.

Spent the weekend doing rust treatment on a '99 Limited I just bought. Scraped off all the old rust and loose paint first. The plan was to go with POR15 but the instructions required way too much prep time and supplies than I had available. I went with Rust Bullet instead, using their silver automotive formula and a HVLP sprayer.

Covered the underside with two coating of Rust Bullet on Saturday. After 24 hours on Sunday, I applied Fluid Film all over the undercarriage.

That was a lot of work. I guess I'll see how well it holds up after all the travel I'll be doing this holiday

- New ignition cylinder
- Got drivers door lock cleaned and working.
- Got tailgate lock cleaned and working
- topped of windshield washer fluid with rain X winter fluid
- topped off coolant
- went for burgers!

This was on it when I got it.

I have no experience with that kind of radiator/temp cap, but I personally would dump that thing immediately and replace it with an OEM cap.

Why would you dump something you have no experience with before you find out if it's better or worse than OEM?
OEM doesn't mean the best.

Because I'm not willing to gamble my trucks engine over some gimmicky radiator/temp cap when I know that the OEM caps are better than most anything else you will find.

I just did a quick google check of that type of cap and saw plenty for sale on AliExpress with free shipping from china for about $4-7.

To each his own I guess...

See, you went and looked it up just like I did when I saw it. Always check first, the real gamble is dumping something before you know what it is. But if it makes you feel better, my new cap and a few other replacement parts are already on their way.

I noticed that. How is yours holding up? I know a few people on here are running them. That, and it looks like a good fit for the AOR front bumper. I am not running a BL though. I don't mind cutting the grill if I need to in order to make it fit.

I only looked it up for your benefit. I recognized it as gimmicky Chinese junk as soon as I saw it; hence my post to you with the disclaimer that I had no personal experience with the product but personally would dump it quick for a known quality part.

I'm not trying to bust your balls on this issue. This is a forum where everyones input is what makes it a good place visit. I simply offered my opinion based on my experiences.

I have nothing but best wishes for you and your truck.
