What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Iced a fool.

My 1.5 year old CS144 alternator is bad. Come to think of it, it's been inadequately charging my 4runner for at least a year, possibly since I installed it.

So that sucks peen. Threw the battery on the maintainer all day Saturday but it's probably flat now with these temps.

...chasing down a water main that broke in my water system. Covered in mud, bitter cold (PNW standards - you midwesterners, canadians and east coaster's don't laugh!) and actually used my Rigid Industries Ditch Lights to shine in the ditch while we worked all night! I like the "Sport" not the "Utility" part of my rig.

The Hyper spots are good but I like what the JK's do with a dual setup. One is a flood and the other is hyperspot. Seriously considering doing a dual stack up. Would love to hear what you guys think. Length of the front end????

Huge mess. Had to shut down the entire water system to all homes to figure out which pipe it was. Easily narrowed it down once I saw the slip-fix on a main supply line. Photo is deceiving - four feet deep there.

The culprit - The guy I bought the system from a few years ago was an idiot. I've had to go in and repair so many of his f-ups. (Thus the reason I bought the entire system from him!!) Here's another one; found this slip-fix on the main line heading to six homes. Anyone who deals with water systems know you don't use a slip-fix on 2" schedule 40 main lines. This is why. Anyway, I repaired using two compression couplers.

Guy must have been a WSU Cougar then. If you don't expect a lot, you won't be disappointed. :spy:

Brrr... The black and white makes it look even colder. Do you think you would attempt the "big three upgrade"? Or do you think you will just replace the alternator to get back in the game?

I have been on a buying tear as of late, but I want to start pricing what a BTU would run should I find the need.

Installed some longer rear swaybar end links. I had a $50 gift card from Oreillys, so I used it for a set of aftermarket 02' T4R front end links for the rear.

Good luck with those. I bought a pair for the front of my truck and it took about 2 days for them to shear off at the nut on top. If you want some serious links that will last forever, check out MStudt, solid and top notch end links.

The BTU is just running some heavier gauge wires which is pretty inexpensive. If your keeping the stock alt I'd say skip it. Just make sure your grounds are clean and the stock wiring size will be fine. If your going to go with a higher output alt then I'd do the BTU.

2nd coat of primer going on. I may hit it one more time, then on to the Rustoleum hammered black. I am taking my time as it is snowing outside and about 32 degrees in my garage with a small space heater that serves as only comic relief. But I am happy to be moving forward. I brought the sliders into the living room to warm up in front of my heat vent along with the primer as I sipped a delicious stout and enjoyed fresh air.

I am excited to see these things on my rig. Richard Stubbs is one hell of a nice guy. I have had a few great conversations with him in the past week or so. He is generous with both his time and knowledge and I can't recommend him enough. I am very happy I went with his sliders.

I knew it would happen sooner or later but I have already racked my shin on these bad boys in my living room as they reached ideal paint application temperature. Hahaha! First blood! They drew first blood.

Put some new Anti-Freeze in it and ran it for a while. Tested the gas in the cooling system. Supposed to stay blue.
Pre-Test

After test at idle and 3000rpm. Tested for 90 seconds. Looks good don't you think?

Temp was here after idling for about 40 minutes. This was normal before the radiator blew up.

This was temp after a 4 mile 1500' climb at about 20-30mph.

So was the head gasket never blown....or did the snake oil (Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealer) solve it?

Thank you for warning, personally I completely plan on getting a set from MStudt. Main reason was funding, I only paid $6 for the pair.

DRL delete.
Didn't move the battery.
Long flat head disconnected the harness clip and I used the gloves I was wearing as protection.
Took 2 min. [emoji1605][emoji1605]

Already had big 3 upgrade, but I did it when I installed the crappy alternator, so I never got to see if that alone would have been an improvement.

Installed stock alternator tonight, milspec battery terminals, negative quick disconnect, and made some new cables using #4 welding wire. Way more pliable. Unfortunately it was getting dark and I forgot to connect a wire by the alternator, which upon starting the car vibrated and grounded out. This blew my 120A alternator fuse :nono:
