What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I managed a number of upgrades to my 2000 T4R this past week. First was adding a 42" light bar to the front and a 22" to the rear. Mounting the rear, I did something a little different. I didn't want to drill into the roof of the truck, so instead I drilled holes in the top rear spoiler thing, added two stainless steel threaded inserts, and mounted the light there using the existing wiring harness into the truck from the top brake light to run the wires.

Next was a tail light upgrade. Replaced the stock tails with the "Euro" style ones. $85 on ebay, easy fix, looks great.

Next was painting the front grille matte black and blacking out the badges on the rear of the truck.

Finally today was installing LED upgrades to the gauges (I only did the big three on that and the key light). Learned something during that as well. Kinda feel like a dumbass for not thinking about it earlier. When I installed the lights, I reattached the system to test and nothing happened. Took it back apart thinking that maybe I put the bulbs in backwards. After about a half hour of dealing with this BS, it dawned on my that I had detached the cable for the dimmer switch!!!! Plugged that back in and voila, everything works!!!

It's not the truck but I'm seriously annoyed car wise today!

My BMW was two weeks old today.. I got a puncture last week, and this afternoon the tyre fitter took a chunk out of the alloy wheel :gun4:

It I wasn't unlucky enough getting a puncture on a car that's done sub 150 miles from new, this really makes you spit!

Apologies, not 4Runner related.. but I'm seething. I've never had anything new before! Now its damaged and I have to go through all the aggravation of arguing and getting it fixed! :tsk:

Well I did it. I purchased a set of 285 KO2s on Discount Tire Direct' eBay sale. I figured that if I felt like jumping up a size from 265/75s, now was a great time to do so at $200 off the set to bring it to $708. No local DT would match the price, but they said that I could still insure / mount through them. Interested to see how much, if any they rub without a BL.

Not today, but I soldered the pigtails for my old stereo and installed it! I can finally control the volume again! I also installed [MENTION=57546]4-Ripcord[/MENTION]'s bracket for real this time with some components and wiring. I just need to wire the relay to an ignition switch for it all to work. Once that's all done, I can start adding in my old stuff!

I'm gonna try. That four letter word called work is gonna get in the way though. I have some stuff to order from amazon to get the lights and fuse block all hooked up. Then paint the thing. So far I've managed to clean the garage and clock the winch. lol

Yeah, he's inspired me a bit. I'm gathering stuff to do it right. I do have one question for [MENTION=57546]4-Ripcord[/MENTION] though. Are you still running individual relays to your lights? SO switch to relay to fuse block? I'm using McTuning 20A rockers so I don't think it would be needed but I'm plumber and not an electrician. lol

For all of the accessories I have added, I did not modify their wiring harness (except for replacing the switch with one I liked better). I simply have them attached to the fuse block instead of directly to the battery.

The relay on the fuse block setup I have is just an ignition relay, so the whole thing is only active when the truck is on.

I got the 100A relay as the primary switch for the whole platform. I did a little math on the lights for my bumper. One set will be 36w/12v=3A. The other will be 72w/12v=4A. So no relay would be needed if the McTunings switches are truly 20A. I'm running 14awg wire for everything so the wire will handle that no problem as well. That all being said though 40A relays where 11 bucks for a five pack. Yeah, I'll be adding the relays. I'm not using any pre-fabbed wiring harnesses and 11 bucks is pretty cheap insurance. Thanks for the ideas and some inspiration man.

took my studded snow tires off yesterday....

which led to a bad dream....last night I was dreaming that I was on a mountain road, in ice, slid sideways and then nose first into a snow bank. wiping out the driver side doors, mirror, bent a wheel. Wiped out both headlights, and the grille and bumper.
but then I realized....hey this is not my 4 runner....its a Cherokee...(ive never owned a Cherokee)

so my dream had a happy ending

Hey guys, new owner of a 2000 T4R V6 SR5 2wd. Recently totalled my Tacoma and decided to get into the 4Runner world. I would like to upgrade from the stock suspension but am not sure which route to go.

So far I'm thinking about going Bilstein. I don't have the biggest budget so can I get some recommendations for light duty dirt trails? Really just gunna be taking the Runner on hiking and camping trailsaround the Central Coast of California.

Leave it stock. The stock suspension will not limit where you can go if you're 2wd. Get decent all-terrains and you'll be surprised how far you can get in a stock 2wd 4runner.

Well It already has new 31" all terrains from the previous owner as well as motometal wheels so I guess I'm good there. Are stock suspensions decent on 2000 4Runners or just by my use of it don't need anything better?
