What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

The AC in my 99 isn't blowing the coldest air so I called a local place and was quoted:

“$55 to evacuate and vacuum system plus $30 a pound for freon. Your system takes about a pound and a half so it'll probably be around $95”

The $55 is considered an inspection and would apt towards any work the system needs.

Does this seem reasonable or likely to get out for $95?

Honestly seems like a good price. The likelihood of getting out for 95 depends on honesty of the shop and if there is actually anything else wrong.

I've been out of town so not sure what happened exactly. Took my moms car to visit my girlfriend at school this weekend because it gets better MPG. Left my 4Runner at my school apartment. I guess someone stole 4 lug nuts off the front driverside wheel and my brother drove it while his vehicle is getting inspected. He's not the most mechanically inclined and I guess he thought it'd be fine to drive around the block to drop some laundry off. Wheel came off, fender is done, maybe door too. One of the lug nut studs sheared off. Dust shield grinded the inside of the wheel pretty well too, I'm not expecting that wheel ever to balance again. No one was hurt, no other vehicles were struck, the loose wheel didn't hit anything, air bags didn't deploy.

Will be taking pictures for insurance tomorrow and upload them in my build as well. Hopefully everything works out, just waiting on insurance

OK whew! It's awful anyway you look at it, but it seems like everything is repairable or replaceable which is good. Huge PITA for you I know. Heartbreaking with all you've done to it. seriously....your worried about ac. Crap, I still have at least 3 feet of snow here and another 3-4 inches due tonight
I haven't needed ac for years, but I would be pissed big time if my heater did not work....roll your windows down

It's 80° F here today, and tends to get over 110° regularly during the summer.
I guess you could say I'm planning ahead.

I guess its all about perspective....life styles...where you live...sorry if I came across..."wrong" I live where I live cause for me ....no way would I live in your climate zone
maybe that is true for you too...your home is your home, mine is mine
others might not want to live in my climate zone either
and funny....today I was thinking about...I wonder if there is a way to bypass the AC compressor, like you could on many old fords and chebys and get rid of the patristic drag and increase (slightly) mpg

sorry to hear of the damage and other woes.
What i did for my 297,000 mile, 1999, SR-5 is to start a complete OEM rebuild of front and rear suspension. I am the original owner and the only thing that has been done to it was I replaced a tie rod end about 2 years ago. So I figured it was about time to replace ball joints and all associated parts. Why OEM? 1) I drive off pavement but do not wheel. 2) It went 17 years and 297,000 miles on OEM parts--never quit a winner!

Where about in LA do you live? I'm in Palmdale and it get stupid hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter. Weird as it sounds, we've gotten snow this past winter. We should meet up sometime. I got no 4Runner friends. Lol

Just like [MENTION=124615]3bears[/MENTION] said, it'll about where you live. I could live without ac to a certain extent, same goes with the heater. I guess you can say, adapt to climate change.

No clue who does. I would've been in better condition if they just stole the whole wheel. Pisses me off but people do f'ed up crap all the time.

Dunno why I can't leave stuff alone. When my ball joint went out my fender flare ripped off, couldn't find another one and the pass side one was falling off too. I couldn't find replacement flares so I took off the rest of the molding and flares, instant regrets lol well now I'm motivated to get the holes covered and Bedliner where the flares went.

Shredded my a/c belt the other day so I went ahead and changed them all out. That power steering adjuster bolt is a pain to deal with. I would absolutely avoid messing with it unless you have flex-head gear wrenches. Either the engineer who designed it has baby hands or I'm just some knuckle-dragging brute.
