its actually pretty easy with some extensions and swivels, I would personally rebuild it.

I have the rebuild kit, I bought it a year ago — but I'm lazy and procrastinate. So...yeah...

Yeah I get what your saying and I am far from a safety freak (more like hold my beer person)...but changing tires (even truck tires because you just lever them on) is nothing like sticking your head into a wheel well with your arms tucked inside on a 1x4" jack. Not that hard to slide the wheel you took off under it. Anything to save your ass...emergency is one thing...but dang.

I've never taken my 4runner to a mechanic for anything – but I'm almost tempted to pay some other sorry sap to do this one thing for me while I sit back and relax.

My starter died on vacation in San Diego with my kid and friends, I had no choice to but to let a local shop do the work. I instructed them I wanted to keep my factory starter, and I would pay the core charge, but they didn't listen. I gave them a scathing yelp review

Everything seems to happen to my vehicle when I am out of town, on the road or not ready for it. Dang

installed a new starter

Hopefully yours went smoother then mine. I couldn't get the starter out through the fender because my UCA's are aftermarket and larger. Had to remove the steering rack to get it out. Could have removed the control arm but I wanted to grease my poly bushings on the rack so I went that way.

Sure. Shit happens. I don't walk out my door in a lightning storm barefoot carrying a lightning rod though. That's asking for shit to happen. There is a difference. In that post upthread there is a tire right there. Pretty easy to put that under the vehicle instead of nothing. lol

Just do one jack in the middle front axle and do both steer tires
All in mud, sand, dirt, gravel, on the side of the hwy at a huge slant. wherever the truck or trailer happens to be parked.

My starter has been telling me for a year now that it needs new contacts. Every now n' again when it acts up — I just give it a minute and it will fire up if I threaten to get out and beat its ass. However, my kids are starting to pick up on this and recently asked me when I was going to fix that "no-good dirty old piece of crap starter".

Guess I better learn to cuss in Spanish or fix it before the wife finds out I've turned our kids into little cussing grease monkeys.

So what are mechanics charging these days for labor only on a swap?

I got these WET OKOLE seat covers from the junkyard for $5. Yes 5 bucks and it's actually from a 2004 350Z. I don't have 350Z seats, but I do have Scion TC seats and it fits like a glove. There's rips on the outer sides because of the air bags deployed, but I switched the covers so the rips would be on the inside. I live in WA and I hate when it rains and get mud all over. I'm more of a functioning kind of guy and for 5 bucks I couldn't go wrong.

Oh screw that! I was thinking like an hour's worth of labor if I handed them a starter that I rebuilt and just told them to pull the old one out and install my rebuild. If this were to cost me more than $75 in labor I would just do it myself.

Yeah I hear you, I've seen all the write-ups and this isn't above my skill-set in any way – it's just that it's a big oily mess down there with nearly half million miles on the engine and I'm not a little dude with toothpick arms.

If I can't find a place to swap it out for around $75 then I'll just do it myself. Only thing that tops my laziness — is my cheapness.

Seats are from a 2013 Scion TC. Used stock brackets from 3rd gen 4Runner manual seats. Seats bolts right up to the tracks, but doesn't align with the outer holes toward the doors. The inner bolts in with no modifications. You can extend the outer track, but I was in a rush to install the seats. I'll definitely make them a true bolt on this coming summer. I think!

This was the first thing I did to mine when I bought it. Believe the contacts were $14 and I did it with basic tools in a car port. Wasn't the easiest, but it was done. Yes... keep the kids away because they will learn a few new words.
