Alternator

Replaced my alternator today with with he HO one I bought last year. Still have my whine, so power steering pump is next on the list to replace or revuild. I'm hopin that fixes my problem because I don't really want to put in a new torque converter.

Sometimes a good thorough flush will quiet a noisy PS pump. Might be worth a shot before replacing it. Worked great on my 89 Supra Turbo.

Finally got a chance to get it washed without the rain coming back to ruin her... so then I parked it next to my dads 2nd gen project

Got that son-of-a-b!tch rear license plate bezel off. I have a few reasons for opening up into the rear hatch: 1) bezel causing rusting where it chafes the paint so I have to put a rubber gasket on it. 2) while I have it off I'll paint it, 3) a nasty dent under the windshield wiper that would be impossible to access unless the bezel comes off, 4) the rear outside latch handle mechanism is pretty rusty and the only way to clean that up is to take it off, and 5) put in a local up/down switch for the hatch window.

 • Managed to pull off the interior panel. You have to start at the bottom, you can't pull it off at the top.
 • Unscrewed 10 or so bolts holding on black metal panel cover.
 • Unscrewed the two bolts holding the rear latch on. They can be accessed using a socket extension. For one, I cut a little notch in the white plastic cover over the window gear tooth thing, which allowed me to get in to the bolt. This way you don't need to remove the window mechanism at all, you work around it.
 • Unscrewed the one bolt holding the bezel on.
 • Removed license plate.
 • Squeezed with needle nose pliers (longer ones with the bent tips would be ideal) the four plastic clips from the inside, holding the bezel on.
 • Pried bezel off hatch a ways but the key cylinder came with it. It has two screws to remove it from the bezel but unfortunately you can't access them until you take the bezel a few inches off the hatch, and that's about as far as you can go without stressing the lock mechanism. So I got a little Philips bit and turned it with needle nose pliers and the screws were in very loosely so they came undone.
 • Then you can pull it away, to reveal this mess:

The flush is worth a shot. I guess I will try that first

Use a syringe with some clear tubing and try to clean the filter screen inside the pump by sucking up the old fluid and the particles on the screen, but be careful not to puncture it. Good chance the screen is clogged up causing a fluid "starvation" when it tries to suck the fluid through the screen. Like the walrus said this is also an issue with MK3 Supras.

Started replacing components in the rear yesterday, and finished today! I replaced the shocks, coils, sway bar bushings and end links, and the bump stops. It was pretty productive and I am happy with the outcome! Now I just need to wait for the coilovers to get in. The rear seems a little higher than I want, but once I add some weight it should be a bit better. I didn't measure before, so I have no idea how much higher it is. I will measure the shock shaft though and see whether or not I made the right decision with these.

Here are some pictures of the aftermath with the new wheels and tires!

Sold the methods and 285/75/16 KO2's and got some 17x8.5 level 8 tracker pros and 34/10.50/17 KO2's. The difference in height is minimal but I wanted a change. I'm happy.

Nice wheel tire combo. We don't see that many people running the 34/10.5/17s on here. Any particular reason you settled on that size? Are you rubbing yet or is that taken care of?

I'd like to compare notes once I get mine put together. I'm going to run the 861s and the 4th gen rears. I'm waiting to put it all together until the coils show up. See if our numbers are any different.

Thanks for the info, I wouldn't have thought finding a turkey baster would be so hard to find. Syringe should be no problem to find.

Renewed my cooling system.
Drained the radiator and block and refilled with Red Valvoline with Zerex coolant.
Also turned my stock (to my knowledge)168k mile thermostat over. Was at 12 and now it's at 6. Probably should have just replaced it, but what the hell.
My drive to work was over 10 degrees cooler than it was at any given time prior.
I used to run around 195.8 on the freeway to 202 at red lights (calculated by the Torque app).
Now I ran 183.2-185 on the freeway and never got over 188.6 at red lights. Not bad!

Scored a new set of wheels off Craigslist that'll clear tundra calipers. Got them for $80. Planning on giving them a graphite paint job like these:

Coached my Final soccer Game after 17 years of Coaching

Well, it was an emotional day for me on Sunday afternoon, as I coached what will probably be my final soccer game after coaching for more than 17 years. I just hope I've been able to impact their lives in a positive way as much as the players have impacted my life over the years. Time to hang up the boots. A new chapter begins...
