Any chance you could share your rough costs for this? I've been debating this route or the Unistrut... 8020 seems a bit pricey but this looks awesome!

As some of you guys have probably read from previous posts I'm in the market for new tires and wheels. I have done my research and settled on Level 8 Trackers 17's and Nitto Ridge Grapplers in 285/75r17. So I've been looking for the best deal I could find. I just had this happen on Discount Tires site. I have was emailed an order confirmation that has the same info. What are the chances the actually stand by this? I'm betting very little but it's worth a try. I mean who doesn't like free tires?

no they don't melt off, someone left them out on a pad swap I would beleive

I'm going to make up my own DIY full length roof rack too. I am wondering if there is any advantage to making it flat, or can it just follow the curved contour of the roof, which I would prefer. Does an awning or RTT need a flat rack to mount to? Or could I use some different brackets to mount to a curved rack?

I used the alum channel that's used to bolt work van interiors to the van structure. Got mine free, but alum uni strut type stuff is available. I put hundreds of pounds on it, it flexes but holds fine. I've put full plywood sheets and long boards/metal.

Made progress on my cargo box today. Wiring is still a bit messy. I had them all measured out and the shop messed up the lengths. But they all reached where they needed too so that's what matters (don't have crimpers for 6awg cable). I'm still missing my 12V seloniod valve and that's why I left my hose a bit long. Next will be the drawers and the wiring and hose to the front of the truck. Think I'll add a check valve once I run a line from the tank to the front of the truck. That way if I ever loose pressure at the tank, I should have enough air to keep my locker (once I get one on the front).

Amp gauge works great. Once I configured my other gauge it was looking good also. Inverter works as expected. Excited that I can have work lights close by now.

So when I worked sales for 6 years when this type of situation happened we would meet the customer at cost for the item. Now each case is different of course, but adding my 2 cents.

I'm picking up my spare hopefully soon if it all works out (in talks now). I'm looking at the STT PRO as my extra spare versus my terrible tire with 4 patches currently sitting on my custom swing away. I am so disappointed in my current tires. They do decent for most cases and perform alright, but SO tired of the tread picking up every single small item. I've read this is a unfortunate thing after I of course got them. Now I'll use them for the rest of the 20k on them (or I come up with about 800 extra dollars somewhere.) I can provide a lot of insight with them and am working on adding this to my build thread so the information is available. I'm one of the people who strongly believes that information should be documented even if its just for YOUR self. In regards to 4runner items I do my best to share everything as people have shared so much with me on this site.

I was wondering what made you decide those tires? I have been all over with what I'll be getting on my next set and want to go away from an All-Terrain tire. I'm doing this because I've struggled with the thread sucking up items that poke into a tire and cause problems, frustration and more. I have ran sets of BFG MT and decided that if I can get the STT PRO for less i'll give these a try. Currently am pickingup one for really inexpensive(if the guy will respond...) I really wish there was a WAY we could try tires in scenarious before buying, lol. Someone that is smarter than me (99%) of this forum come up with some idea and make millions..

Thanks for the feedback on what I might possibly expect. I'm gonna call the store tomorrow and ask them to mount and balance them and give me an out the door price. Then the haggling begins. lol

I have been looking at AT/MT hybrids for a while. Then I decided to go MT. Then [MENTION=116387]Unner[/MENTION] advised against it. So back to AT/MT hybrids it was. I've run MT's in the past and have run AT's in the past. There has always been pro's and con's to either. Once DuraTracs hit the market the hybrid was born. I've never run one and figured I'd give it a shot.

It was down to Nitto Ridge Grapplers and the Toyo R/t. I spent a lot of time reading and keeping up with this thread and it's part if what I'm basing my final choice on. Reviews are very good all over the web as well. It's been said it's easy to balance and they have them in 285/75r17 E. Why E and not C? There's no weight difference and I travel a lot of shale type rock roads. I can always lower the tire pressure if they're bone jarring at the recommended pressure on the street.

Last night I was at the top of the mountain behind my house messing with the CB. I called out a sound check on channel 19 (the trucker’s channel) and a driver responded. He said he was southbound at mile marker 264 which is 14.7 miles away per Google Earth. Not bad for a little $30 CB unit(Midland 1001Z). Having excellent line of sight across a lake didn't hurt either.




Here's what the view looked like from the top. The dark spot in the middle is the lake.

Took the new rig out for a drive. Love the 5 speed. Anyone who says the 5vzfe is under powered has never driven a 5 speed.
