What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

New gear oil in front/rear diffs and transfer case. So far this seems to have miraculously fixed my 4wd's difficulty in engaging.

Started LBJs, but discovered that the threads on my left OTRE was shot, so I went to get new ones (thanks to the fellow 4Runner owner parts guy at O'Reilly's for the employee discount on those!). Realized that the OTREs don't come with jam nuts, so I will be buying ITREs tomorrow, because they do come with the jam nut. They could stand to be replaced, but man I wasn't planning on having to do all this and now get an alignment...

Tested the new front end! Other than a corner light half coming out it all worked well for out of the box shock valving. Put about 40 rough miles on 'er.

Clayed and waxed. One tip I learned on Youtube is to wax your windows as well, you don't need to buy Rainex. It does the same thing. You can also wax inside the windows too which will keep condensation off. Now I just gotta get the wax residue off the plastic bumper part.

Yep. Did mine yesterday. Rubbing and polishing compounds. Buffer work. Clay bar. Wax and polish. Left it outside last night because I'm working on my cargo box in my shop and I stepped out this morning to see a flock of seagulls flew over this morning. 15 different piles of poop on it.

At least it wiped off easily....

Oh yeah. Then it started raining all afternoon. LOL

Picked up the rest of the hardware for the hitch install from the junk yard. Going to install hitch, 5 star wheels, taco whip and new shocks. Hopefully the helps the booty sag it has at the moment.

Tried finding a set at the junk yard but nothing. I purchased a set of barely used suspension off Craigslist from a guy that just recently replaced his shocks then upgrade to a lift, so in going to throw those on for the meantime til I can purchase some OME springs and shocks.

You should have seen the rear brake spring go flying in my garage 2 weeks ago. The 20 minutes of searching for the dam thing was pretty funny too. lol

The viewing public would probably hear more swearing than they'd care for. I wonder if people would really watch something like that. With the shorter and shorter attention span people have these days, watching 2 dudes fumble through a repair or mod might not be the most captivating show.

This idea does remind me of the movie Ed TV where a video team follows Matthew McConaughey around everywhere he goes except ours would be only in the garage. Some of the mods and repairs lasted all freaking day. I guess people can check in at different points and see where we're at now like that Jim Carrey movie The Truman Show.

I don't know, I'll ask Sean what he thinks of this idea.

This is what my 3rd gen did TO ME today. The other week I put in the driver side grab handle by my head and I guess because I have short legs I put the seat far forward. I went over a curb going out of the gas station and whacked my head pretty hard on it. I'll have to put some foam on it.

Man, I have a set of 891s that I've only used less two years if I remember right. Only draw back is I'm in Alaska. I'd love to get rid of them...

Made great progress on the cargo storage box yesterday and today. Paint is drying now. Used white marine epoxy paint on the inside of the left box. That's for my first aid gear. The right side box is recovery gear. For anyone who hasn't seen this yet, I've also got an air compressor and tank in it's own compartment on the front of this. Then when I fold my rear seats down I'll add two more "cube" storage boxes to the front of this and that will creat a full sleeping platform.

Still have a lot of little things to do to this. But the list is getting smaller!!

Explored Rampart Range road a bunch this afternoon. Twas a bad day for 4runners, there was a 3rd 4runner in the middle of Havana St in Aurora CO with the front wheel laying in the middle of the road, guessing LBJ failure.. and then another 3rd gen on a flat bed getting hauled out of Rampart with a smashed windshield after what looks like an epic roll over.

I returned unscaled but covered in dog hair, thanks summer weather

Today, on my 3rd Gen...I completed the 231 Tundra Brake Upgrade! - Very happy so far with the enhanced braking performance. Relatively easy thanks to the info posted...
