Completed the annual spring cleaning and touch up. Ready to go out and get new Arizona pin stripes. Buffed, waxed, shampooed, painted sliders and bumpers and steamed the motor.

On a different subject I took s nice road trip this Memorial Day weekend and used some Gumout gas treatment/injector cleaner and actually achieved just over 21 mpg.

I am building a screw driver antenna for the Yaesu, which I currently have no plan when I will finish.

I installed an automatic shifter handle on my manual shift lever because the OD button works great as a PTT button to make the system a hands-free one without using the oem mic.

Keep up posted when you get that screwdriver antenna done! As far as the PTT button goes, that is brilliant.

Olallie Lake (Out of Detroit area (mybackyard))

So we swapped the springs out on my Dad's Toyota in preparation of our Overlanding this summer, so it unfortunately involved taking it out and stressing it. So we decided to do our Olallie Lake loop (40 miles and absolutely beautiful) to stress the Leaf Springs and get out of the house. The drive out to Detroit Lake which has been scary low(Water Height of 1424 ft) for the last couple years was actually full at 1565.2 ft, which we knew as the snow and water have been off the charts. Stopping at the gas station on the way out we heard rumors of 5' of snow at Olallie Lake, which is possible, but its Memorial Weekend.

Drive out was perfect, 65 degress at 10am, climbed from 2700 ft to 3700 and started to see snow on the sides of the road and in shade on the road. As we continued to wind up the gravel roads we started to see a few cars on the side of the road just parked and left. Around the bend was about a foot of snow and the fun began. Low Air pressure, winching (a few times) and some close calls that scared me the most I've been due to long drop offs and snow at a 30 degree angle .. I've done some of the long drop offs on both sides and those don't bother me as much, its the snow sliding that makes me a little more cautious. We finally got to 4772 ft and I had to turn around. 4-6' of snow for the rest of 27 miles of the loop.

I have decided to change some of my build to be more capable in regards to my frustration in the snow compared to what I see happen. After Ouray trip in September going to either buy different tires or hot knife my current and buy another set anyways. I was down to 10 psi again and I was doing decent, but I needed wider lugs and wider tires and I think I could have gone further. Enough of the story, lets see some pictures!





Any suggestions on how to do a little better is appreciated . From what my Dad was telling me was my failure was in the tires not clearing enough to push me the little bit forward, the tires kept 'slicking up'.

Using the ash tray location for installing cb radio so decided hey ill relocate the light so.....Illuminated cup holder ooohhhh ahhhhh for whatever reason it looks extremely bright its not that bright and isnt distracting at all while driving, comes in handy.

Sanded and painted my fender flares and cladding, also removed my running boards!

I've toyed with the idea of painting my limited flares white to match my natural white truck — but was never confident it would come out looking good or if would come out looking like a Jeep Cherokee.

What do you like to use for machine buffing and waxing? I tried to learn stuff from Autogeek, that forum is way too confusing.

I clay bar it and used Meguiars Ultimate.

I was thinking of using a second multi shift handle as the transfer case lever but it was too small for a gear shift knob.

What I found is that there are two kinds of OD buttons available for the automatic shifter handle. One is the same as a PTT button - it only makes contact when you hold it pressed. (like the transfer case central locking diff button on the 2001 models and later) and then there is the other that locks in place until you press it again to open the circuit. (like the ETC or RR Diff buttons)

I still cant find what to use the automatic shifter unlock button on the handle (the top button)
Was thinking to make it a horn button or a high beam flash button, or maybe another radio button. I kinda wish it was a hell fire missiles button for all the obnoxious drivers that always cut in front! :naughty:

Also, the ECT button in the picture I pulled out of a junkyard, since my Runner is a manual. I connected it to a standard small fog lamp relay to turn on my accessories. THis way you can turn on music, clock, power outlets (and airbag arming) without the key left in the ignition.

I also use it to leave my cab cameras ON for surveillance while leaving the car in public. :spy:

It did drain the battery a couple of times tho.

As far as the antenna, I will keep you posted.

I've been sitting on a 99+ console for damn near two years now. I really need to get off my butt and install it. Once installed – I'll have 8 cup holders total. 2 in the dash, 2 on the 99+ console, 2 from Bhicks 3D cup holders, and 2 more from another Bhicks 3D cup holder in the back. With 3 kids — cup holders are a necessity.

Busy weekend on the 4runner:
-installed new Toyota upper and lower radiator hoses and Toyota cap
-removed, cleaned, and painted my fender flares (flat black)
-swapped seat bottoms (driver and pass) more on that later
-went to junkyards and picked up a few misc items
~ rear bumper plastic filler panel
~ seat foam
~ misc plastic clips
~ gas tank door spring and upper brackets
~ rear tailgate lift cylinders (need insert bushings)

Will post separate sub-project threads as time allows
