What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I'm about 90% done with my timing belt/water pump job. Still have to put the new radiator in along with the external trans cooler.

Seemingly everything was seized or rusted in some way. The crank pulley was the worst, even a 3 jaw puller that others used didn't work. Ended up using the style pictured below.

That's the only type of puller you should use... You never want to use a 3-jaw puller on the crank pulley anyway. It has an inner and outer section separated by rubber that can (will?) be ruined by prying on the outer edge.

I've been rebuilding a rear axle to replace the leaky rear diff cover. New pinion seal and treating the whole thing with POR-15 to prevent it from rusting through again. I'm pretty busy between now and the 4th of July, but the swap will be happening after I get back in town.

Got the rear bearings and seals all finished yesterday so I did the brakes today. First time for drum brakes...... not that painful; just one busted knuckle. Cleaned up the drums and painted them as well.

While I was under there I dropped my axle and put a spacer on top the driver side spring to level out the 4Runner. Got the air grinder out and worked on the frame somewhat and gave it a shot of Rust Reformer.

.... Then the shock. Appears I'm missing a weld on a section of my frame! I'm sure it just rusted away, but my frame is rock solid and any rust I have is mostly surface rust. These edges are nice and clean. I checked the same spot on the other frame and its perfect (besides dirt). I hit it with paint, and on my next R&R I was going to upgrade my welder with a bottle and instead of working on my bumpers, I'll be working on my frame.

Really, it couldn't be easier. Clean and straight. But weird.

Its obvious now but oddly enough the threads I stumbled upon when looking for how to remove a stuck harmonic balancer had recommended a 5 ton 3 jaw puller you can rent from Autozone... it didn't work at all.

Figured out later about the M8x1.25 threads in the pulley and this style puller. Oh well, the job is done!

5 ton puller and crankshaft bearings don't mix well. YMMV

I just got a call from Adam @4XInnovations that my bumper is shipping and should be here next Wednesday!! Whooohooo!

My Sonoran Steel rear body mounts are in the mail so all I need are my ARB OME 861 rear springs and I should be set.

Damn that was fast. You gotta be stoked. What was your actual order date?

Also what shocks are you running with the 861's? I'm sure it's in your build thread but we all know I'm lazy. lol

Wtf? It looks like there was a weld but it separated?!! Looks like rusted from inside out.

You got me!?!?! I was sure scratching my head on this one. Like I said, my frame is solid.
I was going to wait till my next R&R so I can upgrade my welder, but while in the shower washing all the crap off of me I was just thinking..... I got dang near a new roll of flex core wire on it. Might as well use it up on something that no one is ever going to see. So I think I'll go fishing tomorrow and save this project for the weekend. Should be pretty easy to do (says the guy planning to weld over head, near a fuel tank, while laying right under it. What could possibly go wrong?!?!?!?!)

As scary as it sounds welding near gas tank. I got my rock sliders welded and one part of it was right on the gas tank area. My buddy had to use the torch to break lose the fuel filter nuts lmfao.

How were these things built, by robots or by people? If by people I'd guess they just forgot to weld that one.
I was thinking the same thing. Right now I see no signs of a weld ever being there. Once I get a wire wheel on it and clean it up I'll have a better view.

Took off the skid plates. Inspected underbody. Got quite a leak and there are some rubber bushings that are all torn up under there Looks like an expensive job, great.
