What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

So how was it afterwards? Crunchy & gamey tasting or squishy with a weird nutty flavor? I think some sauteed onions and a good red wine would pair nicely if you cook him right.

Started out by going to the hardware store. If yours is anything like mine they never have exactly what you need but usually have something that will work. They actually had exactly what I needed. Today was already looking good.
Once back I started in on my trans cooler, fan, and trans temp unit. I went with the Glow Shift unit cause it was cheap. More on that later.
Once I wired up the fan I realized it was set to pull. Since it's in front of my cooler I decided push would be a much better way to go. So how do you make a 12V fan go from pull to push? You remove it from the cooler, which means removing the cooler as well. Luckily I hadn't run the trans lines yet or I'd of been pissed. Once removed you take the fan off the shaft by removing the 6mm nut. Then you turn the fan over. Then you put the nut back on. Then you reinstall the fan and the cooler.
I know what your thinking. That's just gonna be a really shitty pull fan. The great thing about 12v motors is if you reverse the polarity they run backwards. So I wired hot to ground and ground to hot. Now the fan is pushing.
With that done I wired up the rocker switch to control the fan and the wiring for the trans temp sensor that comes with the Glow Shift kit. With all wiring done and working correctly it was time to mount the temp probe and tie in the after market cooler. That went pretty painlessly other then the fact it was 104 in my garage. I suffered through the heat and got the supply line hooked up to the probe, then to the cooler and the cooler return done.
With everything all hooked up it was test time. The first thing I did when I started the rig was turn on the AC. Then cycled the gears a few times. Then turned on the fan via the rocker. Sweet everything works and no leaks so far.
Then it was time to change the color of the Glow Shift unit. WTF? It's still red. There's a little button you push that's supposed to cycle 7 colors. It doesn't. Nada, nothing else but red. I verify the wiring and it's correct. I pull it out of it's piller holder and shake it. Yep somethings loose. And it's right next to that little push button. Of course Don't Shifts customer service is M-F so Monday I'll give them a chance to make it right.
After that I decided to suffer just a little more and knock out the Sonora Steel washer bottle relocate. That was easy and well worth it. No more big annoying washer bottle under my passenger side well anymore. My tire would have ripped it out eventually so I look at this one as preventive maintenance.
I hoped to get around my bump stops and my Sonora Steel rear body mount bushings but 5 hours in a sauna was enough. There's always tomorrow. lol

Maybe if you'd turn your fan off of "hi" every once in a while, you wouldn't kill the poor bastard.

If anyone has figured out how to get a screen or something over that air inlet please let us all know. I too have had to deal with a mouse in there. In fact, we transported mouse and nest across state lines before I got around to opening it up.

Fuel filter is giving me crap. Digging there horns. Those things are loud.... I can't wait to spread its message of alertness to the detached world.:hurt:

What did you do to your 3rd gen today?
Started my rear drawer.
The difficult and noisy part is done.
Today: install slides, paddle latches, Tie down rails and d rings.
May take a day off next week to sand, paint, cover with carpet, diamond tread top matting, and stainless edge trim

I put on some 20% tint on the front windows to try to match the rears, got the smokin deal on a scanguage from Amazon and put that in. Also did radiator hoses, thermostat, flushed the coolant, replaced the power steering fluid with Redline ATF, and did the very pointless deckplate mod. I also had to put a new door on my first gen. I need a cheaper hobby.

Item CC1998 by champion radiator. You can order from couple of places online. Jegs even got them. I got my from 4 Runner Radiator (96-02) $209 plus tx. They are local distributor here in OC, but they ship for $40

finally pulled the skid plate to check things out and change the oil. glad I did, but almost wish I didn't. Slow oil drip over the years made everything pretty scuzzy down there. Bonus is the bolts for everything are going to be easy to come out because they've been coated with oil. Caved in the end of the filter with the filter wrench to get enough grip to start loosening the thing, because apparently the shop who did it put in all their might to tighten that thing.
Also noticed the front sway/stabilizer bar end link busted on the drivers side and the bushings are looking rough. Do I even need this thing on there? New links are cheap, but I feel like I'll bust more when I finally take it offroad.
