Hey got pic on that new pioneer touch screen radio by any chance? Im looking to upgrade my radio since its dont work anymore[emoji30], and what adapter you used to get it to work thanks.

I ordered from Crutchfield and used their pre-built harness feature for $20. Well worth it. Turned out you remove the factory amp and use the two plugs that feed into the amp to go into a single plug into the back of the new unit.

I got the opened box version as it was more than I really planned to pay for a radio, but with Oregon's new distracted driving law, it is cheaper than getting one ticket if my wife or I look at our phone while driving.

Touch screen response is really good. Really, the only features I feel it lacks is display changeability, only 3 color settings and the left hand buttons always stay blue. I think I'll just swap all my dash/climate LED's to white and then they will go with any color combo.

Not yet. I may in the future. I saw how you put yours on your rear spoiler or whatever we call that thing, however, my 2000 was apparently ordered from the factory without it. So I'd likely be mounting by the license plate, which would then be blocked by a bike rack from time to time...

That wasn't me, but I did comment on that thread. He had a bedliner painted spoiler, IIRC

I don't care about a backup cam at this point, a rear mounted dash cam however, yes

FWIW, I was looking at a similar Pioneer double DIN headunit just for grins and giggles

Did you sleep through elementary school? Had you been awake, your teacher(s) had probably mentioned more than once, if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. I think you should reconsider how you speak to people because you sound like a tool.

I, too, can wrench on cars and most of my friends and extended family can't. I help them whenever they have a car issue if it's something I have experience in. But you will not see me running around, rubbing in their face that I can work on cars and they can't.


Also, don't be so quick to presume everyone's situation. You never know what someone else is going through.

I have personally wrenched with Mark and he's one of the most generous 3rd Gen owners I know. We wrenched all day on some dude's 3rd Gen visiting from Colorado on New Years Eve and we did all the work for free. Mark does side jobs to supplement his income to support his family. I can guarantee the prices he charges his customers is a much fairer price than the overpriced shops in existence. Sometimes people talk before realizing how their words will be interpreted. I guarantee Mark is a solid guy and I consider him a friend.

Thanks for the reply, but i can decide on what to get im leading toward the app radio type of unit. Did you had to trim the plastic around the radio in order to fit in place?

I think I will sand the spray paint from the previous owner down and have a fresh surface to apply it on.

On what surface are you going to sand down? If you are going to remove your grill dip, get some rubbing alcohol or some WD40 and it will rub right off with a rag.

Wonder what factory matched paint over dip would do...

Always, I'v found a solid ~5 layers with 10/15min dry time in between coats gave my the best smoothest results. As far as paint over the dip, I wouldn't recommend it. It will run and the texture of the paint will not match.

I don't think so. Toyo is the in house brand of Les Schwab Tires. I could be wrong. Just pick up the phone and call a discount tire and see if that's something that they sell. But more importantly it would need to be on sale from their eBay site. Not all brands, models, and sizes of tire are on sale. So you just have to sort of luck out a little bit and be looking for something that happens to be on sale.

I recently put Falkens on and they won't balance following any type of balancing procedure. I am going to cut my losses and replace them before they destroy the front suspension. I wanted 265/75/17 toyo RTs but their eBay store has the same size AT/KO2 and Mickey Thompson ATZ/P3 for $650 shipped

Wonder what factory matched paint over dip would do...

I plasti dipped my front grill and emblem, then decided to spray some gloss black over the emblem for contrast.

Came out looking great, like gloss black plasti dip, but the dip no longer had the easy removal dip properties when I decided to remove it a year later . Had to peel it off in little bits because the spray paint doesn’t flex like the dip so it was a real pain removing it. It came off clean, but not in nice easy to peel sheets.

New to the 3rd gen world, however with my 5th gen, Mark and Tim spent countless hours out of their own time helping random strangers like me and others out. Mark has sacrificed his few days off even when his wife just had a baby and when the Napa fires were within miles of his house. I second Tim's guarantee that Mark is a solid guy, great friend, and knowledgeable contributor here on the forums. Their enthusiasm for 3rd gens was one of the reasons why I now have 2 4Rs in the family.

I am going to remove the old dupli coat crap that I sprayed on over rattle can paint from the previous owner. Then I am going to wet sand the grill so I have a fresh surface to apply the plasti dip. I used to paint cars for a living but don't feel like busting out the paint gun for this

After reading many threads aboot faulty temp gauges in the dash, I started to wonder if my suspicions were correct about my gauge not working right. I noticed that after driving the truck and letting it sit for a few hours, the gauge would still immediately show "normal" as soon as it re-started. This morning I watched as I put the key in and started it it. The gauge was showing cold, but then showed 'normal' within 2 minutes of running, yet I'm not getting the kind of heat that I remembered my old '89 Yota truck putting out. I remembered that thing put out so much heat from the vents it felt like you could actually burn your skin.

I ordered a T-stat/gasket from the stealership, it will arrive tomorrow so I'll have a bit of entertainment changing out the t-stat at my storage unit, trying NOT to get caught doing it. They have a 'no working on anything' policy that I blatantly ignore from time to time... I'm already accepting the possibility that I'll have to replace the sending unit buried in the backside of the engine.

Ah gotcha, yea sounds like you have the right idea. + get the clear coat spray, it makes all the difference.

Tim, good to know. It just seems sort of strange that someone who is as helpful as he is, portrays himself in a totally different light online. I guess some of it could be attributed to pride in being so proficient in his work, which there is nothing wrong with.
