Removed the back seats (the bottom half) -- so I can sleep in the back more comfortably AND have a couple more inches behind the front seats for a small cooler on the floor and other camping supplies.

Note: one of the bolts was cross-threaded, assuming at the factory...

I put 6oz of MMO in my crank case and bought a 5qt jug of Mobile 1 Full Synthetic for Vehicles with Over 75K miles at Wal-Mart for $26

Got a WIX filter at O'Reillys waiting for me. Oil change weekend coming up.

I've been away for a while.

An axle seal started leaking again, so my parts from Amayana showed up from Osaka on Friday.

Also had a set of Nokian Hak 8 SUV's studded and mounted on my Taco steel rims for winter (because it's here).

Aligned my headlights for winter and did some some cleanup on the frame...

It's my impression that if you're starting the MMO/ATF/SeaFoam treatment and conversion to synthetic that you'll also want to change your filter a few times soon (in case there's some sludge). I went with the 10241 Purolator One for a "cheap" one, and will go with nicer ones later (like PureOne PL20195 or Toyota OEM. Does WIX fall in this "best" category?)

I've been adding Seafoam periodically before oil changes for years in all my vehicles, my 4runner included.

Mobile 1 Synthetic for High Mileage vehicles (over 75K) has additives to help break down sludge, as many higher-mileage formulation oils do.

I could do a mid-interval oil filter-only change, after the first 1000-2000 miles for example, but I don't think that is necessary. I've been hedging against sludge and deposits for as long as I've owned this vehicle.

Considering that the cost of synthetics is coming down on average, the convenience of doing fewer oil changes compared to the cost of 3K conventional oil changes probably evens out.

I have also used my oil change interval as a que to rotate my tires, so I'm really no opposed to changing my oil 3-4 times a year, but if I can get better protection along the way, and maybe only 2 oil changes a year, I'll gladly keep rotating my tires every 3K miles.

From what I recall reading in other threads here about filters, WIX rates up in the top 3rd of filters, on par with Toyota OEM, IIRC. Please correct me if I am wrong.
