Installed my new 4xinnovations rear bumper. Now just need to find a matching rim and tire.

Looks great. What color did you do the rear bumper in?

Nice mixup from PC black

We all know the order.

First you get a lift.
Then you get bigger tires.
Then you get a bigger lift to fit the bigger tires.
Then you realize you have no crawl ratio or power cause of those damn tires.
Then you re-gear and throw in lockers.
Then you realize you still want more power.
Then you get a supercharger.
When all that's done then, and only then, do you get a sport hood.

He's got his priorities correct. lol

Damn that's the way your'e supposed to do it? I started with a 4runner that had a supercharger and working my way backwards. hahaha

Replaced the rear hatch struts with some cheap ones from ebay, fit kind of strange, but they work and the hatch doesn't smack me in the head anymore, so I'm happy

Maintenance

This summer I bought a 97 Limited, 4x4, basically stock and in dire need of maintenance.

I picked up some OME 891's from Wheelers and Skyjacker BlackMax 8500's from Summit for the rear. Also grabbed some Monroe quick struts from RockAuto for the fronts. The old shocks and struts were well worn, put on by previous owners many years ago.

I gained 2-3 inches in the rear, but I can't say exactly because I forget what my "before" measurement was. However, height is just a bonus since I'm mostly looking to increase payload capacity.

In light of this extra height, I decided to put the running boards back on, since my wife (5ft tall and pregnant) and 2.5yr old already struggled entering the truck. I felt like they looked too suburban before, so I slightly altered them by taking off the plastic fairings on the ends and it turned out more appealing to my eye. They'll do for now.

Finally upgraded to the cs-144 alternator and did the big 3 mod also. Was much easier to make battery cables than I thought.

I used the Chevy to Toyota adapter harness that can be found online and instead of stacking up a ton of washers to locate the alternator in the bracket I used a small piece of steel tubing I had laying around.

Cables were made of marine grade cables and tinned lugs from Ancor. Cant suggest this stuff enough. The copper wire is actually the correct gauge as opposed to the cheap wire having a fat layer of insulation and thin gauge copper inside.

Ran a 135 amp breaker between the battery and alternator to protect the truck should the alternator spike too high. (Need to get better pics of where I mounted the 2 breakers)

Next up is to mount my blue sea 12ct fuse block and 100 amp breaker to tidy up the mess of inline fuses I have installed over the years. (all of those wires are wrapped around the factory fuse box for now)

After all of this I got the Kicker CX600.1 amp installed for my Kicker 43TCWRT102. Got the amp to fit under the back seat where the jack and spare tire stuff is since I can no longer use them anyway.
And of course when I finally get the sub delivered and installed. I fire up the radio and it doesn't work...
Replacement woofer should be on the way soon and we will be back in business.

Added some more sound deadening to the floor around and in the cubby under the seat while I was at it. Now just have the doors and maybe the roof left to do.

What position did you set your 6112s?

That's a pretty cool shot. Did you have someone spot you?

Lake Time

Took The Boy out to the lake to hike a trail and, while there, I snapped a few photos and tested out the new shocks, coils, and struts. Maintenance makes a difference in ride quality. Who knew?! No more roll on corners and I never felt like the truck was about to fall apart on the gravel, bumpy roads.

Well yesterday I put some new led tail lights on the Runner. Now I have all rear leds! Now one issue.. I have the stupid ABS light on now.. Today I'm going to head over to O'reillys and see what they say is causing the error..

I seen other post about people having the same issue and some say resistors some say their 3rd led light was out and that fixed it but I'm still unsure.. All my lights work and do not have any hyperflash issues. So I don't know.. :help:

I'll see what O'Reillys says the cause is and go from there...

Pics later today..

Update oreillys couldn't read the code. And I don't wanna pay a mechanic to read it lol.

Troubleshooting 101, revert your mods and see if problem still exists.

I finally drank the Kool-Aid.

My '98 has been having a weird misfire and stumble, but only on the first start of the day, and usually for about the first 8 miles of my drive to work. If I drove anytime after that, it ran fine. I was thinking Head gasket, and once it got to temp and things expanded, it sealed up and ran fine. This proved not to be the case, as my coolant and oil levels are exactly the same as they have been all summer. I didn't think it could be ignition, or it would do it all the time, not just here and there, and not more at any speed/gear than others. Well...

I decided to get new OEM Denso coil boots and reinstall my OEM coils. Along with that, I put in OEM Denso plug wires in place of the NGKs that I had, as well as Denso plugs in place of the NGKs.

Well, I was dumbfounded when the goddamn thing fired up and hasn't misfired yet. (Did the parts swap on Friday)

I guess they sprinkle some magic in the OEM factory, huh?

Yep! I had pulled them off, but after I put on my OME891's, I gained
a couple of inches in the rear. The Boy and The Wife (who's 5ft tall and pregnant) already struggled climbing in, so I thought I should put them back on. I didn't like the look, but realized I could pull off the fairings on the ends and I like how they turned out. I'd really like them to come down another inch, but who knows if I'll ever get to making some lowering brackets.

Cheap Mods!

Heh, Denso did not make the OEM plug wires. Sumitomo did. They were easily identified because they stamped the year on the wire insulation. Just because you bought something from the dealer, does not guarantee it is OEM. Many dealers do carry the Sumitomos, but this is within the last few years. For a long time, they only had the Densos, which are not OEM. All three work just fine in good condition. I have NGKs with 80k on them.

NGK plugs are just as OEM as Densos--all third gen V6s came with 3 NGK plugs on one side and 3 Densos on the other. I run only NGKs since Day 1, and never a misfire.

The Denso coils are indeed OEM and those are the only ones to use. Note: Denso is a part-owned Toyota subsidiary.

Thanks to mtbtim, I was able to yank my front bilsteins out, and go up two notches. And finally leveled my ride out!
