Keep them as trail spares and if you're gonna do the steering rack bushings you should consider the LCA bushings too since you have to move the rack to do them.

That is my plan

I can't keep the old LBJ's, I'm already drowning in spare parts that take up half the garage .

Did you notice a difference while driving after the new ones were installed? I sure did, even though a shop said the old ones were fine. Even though the truck only had 97K miles on it then, I still thought I'd replace them anyways just to be safe.

I haven't driven it yet (the truck is going to spend the weekend on jackstands with all the other crap I'm doing) - but I'll let you know next week.

If you wheel a lot or even occasionally. Keep the old ones in the tuck as a spare. Just incase something happens on a trail. You'll have a spare one "JUST TO GET HOME". It's what I did my wish OTR lol.

OK, since two folks have now suggested to keep the old ones, I'll pull them out of the trash. I don't really plan to "wheel" that much, but I'll keep the option of holding on to them open for now .

Since I'm having a suspension day/weekend, I looked at the rear drums and saw that one of the shields was rubbing against the drum. So I straightened it out a bit (sorry for the crappy focus).



And since I can't stand looking at rusty drums through the wheel slots, I hit them with POR15. Came out pretty good I think!

Crawled under the rig today to do my weekly inspection and discovered that my passenger side inner axle seal is leaking... again. I just replaced that seal in September when I put my reman OEM axle in. Also noticed my driver side outer axle boot is loose and starting to seep CV grease.

I can never catch a break on this thing

Went ahead and did the axle seal. Test drive home in both 2WD and 4WD and seems dry under there still. This time around I just started the seal in the housing square and let the axle itself drive it the rest of the way in to ensure proper depth.

Kumho Crugen 51HT 275/70-16 from Tirebuyer

Copped these 70k mile Vietnamese-made, Korean-brand treads tonight from Tirebuyer - $442 OTD and shipped with an additional $60 discount. Will spend $60+ for mounting/balancing at a local shop. Reviewers are comparing these favorably against Michelin's similar tire.

Will sell the current 265/70-16 Michelin ATX tires with at least a few thousand miles left on them for probably around $40 at a used tire shop.Total cost should end up around $120 per wheel.

Put Kumho's 265/75R16 Road Venture AT51 on my 2003 Tundra a year ago - no issues after ~10k miles, just a tad noisy, and great tread wear. Guess I'm a Kumho Runner now!

Yeah. Keep them in the back somewhere. I have a spare cv. Because one fits both sides. I have both LBJ and both OTR.

Nice! The Whiteline price is easier to swallow than $200 on OEM.

Perfect timing for OctaneJunkie's post a few pages back with the amazon links, i picked up the steering rack bushings as well, a fuel filter, and oil filter off of amazon. Looked under the car last week and saw the main bushing for the rack was almost gone.. not sure why/how other then being old i guess.

Waiting till monday after work to do the work, and install the new passenger side mirror assembly i broke off backing out of the garage... :redbrick:

I did this mod with limited success on my 1st gen 4Runner when installing poly bushings. I found that I had to dremel in some channels on the ID of the bushing. I'd be interested to know how this works out for you if you do it.

I found a set of 5 wheels from a FJ cruiser on craiglist a few months ago for $250. I bought them, sold the FJ cruiser spare wheel cover that came with them for $60. Then I sold my original wheels with bald tires for $200 and my original spare tire for $20.

So I got a set of 5 wheels I love and made a profit of $30 in the process :dancin:

New tires are Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT - 265/75R16 116T

Decided against the LT version because I didn't want to affect how the vehicle handles on pavement.

These had good ratings on Consumer Reports -- obviously Consumer Reports doesn't give a crap about off-road performance, but I figure it's more sensible for me pick a tire that will work off road at least as well as my bald Michelin highway tires did, and then prioritize on-road performance.

Plus, I trust the CR ratings more than online comments from strangers like "it's kinda loud, but not too bad" or "pretty good in snow".... no offense!

All said and done, I paid $706 for a set of 5 tires which is well below what I thought I would pay.

I replaced the OEM fog lights with light pods. I was given two Rigid Industries 2x2 light pods, and they fit perfectly in the OEM brackets. It is amazing how everything went together perfectly and I am surprised at how well everything looks. The lights are probably brighter than any purpose-built fog lights or OEM replacements. You can wire it up nicely, and the best thing is that you don't have to add switches on the inside of the car, the normal fog light switch still works. Highly recommended.
