What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Upgraded my dash, shifter, and speedo bezels to Limited "wood", and finally finished my built-in voltmeter and outside temp gauge project. Very pleased to see that the ambient temp gauge and the trans temp gauge read the same temp (engine off obviously ), I would have expected them to be off by a few degrees.

What outside temp unit did you get ?
I have been wanting to add one.

Upgrade the stereo. Impressed with how simple the center console and radio come out. Awaiting climate control bulbs.

What junk yard/yards do you go to? I’ve gone to the sun valley pick a part and it sucks... it’s close to me so I go but I’m looking for a few things and it seems you’re consistently finding parts. Any tips would be appreciated :thumb3::thumb3:

Got my ball joints in today from amazon but to my surprise amazon stickered over the Toyota part number? Wtf? How do I know if these are legit? There’s a Toyota sticker underneath the amazon sticker but anyone can resticker the bag. Plus I can’t read what the sticker says underneath because again the p/n is blocked off... any help would be appreciated are there any indicators I should look out for that let me know they’re legit?:help::doh::wtf:

I bought a thule basket for my 4runner and the fairing was scratched to hell and I didn’t wanna pay 40 something for a new fairing so I stickered it up eh...

It's hard to find a Fahrenheit unit to begin with. I went through about three different units, some of which didn't work, some of which had a leading zero on the display, until I settled on this DROK unit:

Digital Meter DC 12V 24V Red/Blue/Yellow/Green Led Thermometer -67~+257 Fahrenheit Degrees Digital Temperature Meter for Car/Indoor/Outdoor/Pet House/Greenhouse etc.

I also got a longer 3m probe harness to go along with it.

I plan to post a more detailed writeup of what I did, hopefully making it easier for others.

I usually go to the ones closer to me, in Wilmington. But this time I was driving right past Sun Valley and decided to stop by. And I stumbled across this "still warm" '00 Limited, full of goodies. I really wanted to also take some of the metal emission tubing on top of the motor (mine is all corroded), but a guy was working under the hood and made some indications that he was taking the whole motor. He didn't seem to have the tools for it, but who wants to get into a junkyard fight, right?

In general though I agree with you, Sun Valley is not my favorite. As for finding parts, my strategy is not to go looking for anything specific, it's more to forage and be prepared to grab something if it materializes. Being flexible is the key, like when I stumbled across the Limited wood dash that I had all but given up on finding.

If you look up the seller information on Amazon and it's listed as an online Toyota dealer then it should be a genuine toyota part.

If you look up the seller information on Amazon and it's listed as an online Toyota dealer then it should be a genuine toyota part.

That's common for Amazon to do when they are the stocking shipper

I agree with this. Either watch the web site looking for new additions and be prepared to run, or go dumpster diving lol it's a crap shoot there.

I was at sun valley pick a part Friday morning 9 am (I’m assuming you went Friday afternoon) and did not see anything worth while I saw 3 but they were all stripped down 96-98’s. Do you pay the extra fee to get into the newer vehicle junkyard? I literally left empty handed and locked out of my truck.:doh:

I honestly didn’t know these places had a website showing what they’ll be bringing out.:thanks: This is new and useful info to me I would literally just go and pray I found what I was looking for. As far as it being a crap shoot there I agree but since it’s literally a 10 minute drive I feel I have nothing to lose but the 3 dollar entrance fee lol. I used to drive down to Fontana to a place called ecology and that was my favorite junkyard to go to because it was as clean as can be as far as organization goes and they kept it tidy (no parts or glass on floors next to vehicles). And best of all it was imports only so the chance of finding what you wanted for your import was higher. Of course they closed it down though so now I just stick closer to home.

It was sold directly from amazon... amazon has been good to me for the most part but they haven’t been 100%. I’ve literally ordered items and they’ve sent me used stuff. So that’s what kinda throws me off and scares me about these lbj I think I should be fine though. Thanks for your reply!

Yesterday I replaced the burnt out cluster bulb that lights up the gear selector for "D". When I got the cluster out, I quickly learned that the OEM bulbs are NOT #74 like everyone says on the webz, the OEM bulbs are smaller in diameter. What I did was switch out a bulb holder for the rear locker indicator and put it in for the "D" then used the #74 bulb/holder in the locker indicator position. the #74 ended up being a bit brighter so it works out fine with it in a position that rarely lights up.

I got there at about 10am and went straight to the primo section, where they had the fresh '99 and '00. I didn't even bother with the regular section. It was pretty quiet there, except for the dufus with a hammer and a screwdriver trying to pull the motor from the '00. I almost grabbed its painted bumpers, but I had reached my spending limit for the day. Of course next weekend everything is 40% off .

I may have parked behind you I parked behind a 4 runner that was parked next to a 2nd gen close to the stand where they sell the dollar tools in front of the entrance to the yard. I have a jade green limited
