I ran out of room for adjustment so I replaced the '96's accelerator cable with a junkyard pick that was about an inch shorter than mine.

That should be more vertical- it's hard to get good angles with while laying on the floorboard under the dash.

Heh....in this case MY size would have been a lot better a bit....smaller, seeing as I'm laying in a spot made for feet.

Thanks. It is lifted:

Front: 6112 - 8th notch
Rear: OME 890 / Bilstein 5100

Previously had 265/75r16 so the 265/70r17 are pretty much the same size.

I've got the exact same KO2 tire and size on my '17 and no rubbing issues. Not lifted.

Thanks, phattyduck. Last Sunday I described my symptoms to a mechanic friend and before I could get into details he exclaimed: "Ground the frame!" Once I shut up and thought it through, I realized that he must be right - the frame needed grounding to the engine block and body, and was achieving it through the parking brake cable! When I released it, the ground became weak and intermittent, and hence the wacky gauges, the weak headlights, the cutting engine. A new ground of 8 gauge wire from engine block to frame solved the problem like magic! All is perfect now. The build just passed smog, light and brake inspection yesterday, and will soon have the VIN verification done by CHP. All will be legal! This was an answer to my prayers!

Annual oil change day !

1 yr and 14K on the cheapest crap oil that I could find last year when I got the 'runner. Today I treated it to another OEM filter and some Rotella T6.

I also installed a xmas gift. My GF has these in her Rouge, I must have talked about them enough times that she thought I'd want some for my clunker. She was right ! I hope that I never lose keys between the seat and console ever again.

By "keys" you mean French fries right? Haha

Decided to replace my o2 sensors with denso. I had a shop do one of them few years back but recently suspected that at least one wasn't operating properly.
Thats when it got weird, the downstream was secured with one 12mm nut one 1/2" nut. The upstream was secured with 12mm nuts, stacked ontop of 13mm nuts and there was no paper gasket.....
I replaced each of the 12mm nuts and the gasket. Seems happier while driving

If the two tiny wires look as dirty as the bulb it certainly won't hurt!

The wire inside didn't look to caked up but for sure this is well into "couldn't hurt" territory. I went out for a drive today and she's running well. I'm going to track the mpgs and see if I can improve on my usual ~230 / tank.

I realized that the transmission I got for my 2001 2wd 4runner has only one plug in for the wires and there is a cable that was not on my transmission that just stopped working. So where can I find out how to get this transmission to work for me? the trans I got was a 99

You need an '01 or '02 trans. The earlier trans ('96-'00) uses a cable connection for kick-down and line pressure. The '01/'02's are electronically controlled.

Did you really go 14k and crappy oil and one filter.....yikes.

If so I would do several oil changes in the next few months to wash the gook out.

It was the first nice weekend we've had in a while so I gave the 4Runner a much needed wash after replacing both 02 sensors. These are the sensors I ordered:

Pulled the electronic controller for the a/c/heat. It was stuck in floor mode
and wouldn't respond to buttons. So I pulled it apart and put it back together.
Now it works. Didn't see any cold solder joints during a quick look-see. If it
croaks again, I'll look closer.
