What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

installed my fogs today and looked around to see what its gonna take to do a block heater ( moving to Alaska) and plans to replace the oil cooler gaskets and hose...trans flush and of course cooling and oi change out.....but ARGG...drivers side valve cover half moon in the back decided to start leaking
:wtf: not now... aside from the work listed above...im doing rear wheel bearings next week, got to make a extension system for my full rack to haul stuff and start packing..have a garage sale of what I cant haul and also sell my canoe and kayak as well as 4runner misc parts..I have to go out of town for a few days and leave for Alaska in 20 days
oh yeah......got to pull my center console because my radio died a few weeks ago
and I don't have a garage

This is basically what I did. I have a feeling that somewhere in this forum there are more than one post on how to do a less messy oil change.

The only real way to not make a mess is a small funnel and a length of hose, position the funnel in the LCA and run the hose close to the drain plug. More of a hassle than its worth in my opinion though.

JDM is Done!

Today I finished the install of my JDM motor, and it runs great! Very smooth and quiet. I replaced a 265K original motor with a cracked head and blown head gasket.

Are you getting a knocking sound? For the past few months I've been chasing an occasional chirping sound when the engine is cold. The sound goes away at speed or when I back off the gas, so it's gone when I pull over and pop the hood.

I had the belts removed to check for bad bushings and bearings but that was no help.

There is a squeak at times but other than that it knocks but goes away.

Use a form-a-funnel up against the bottom of the filter, routed down next to the lower a-arm. Crack it and let it drain before removing, like this:

I bought a second one

I've been sending my 4runner really hard, it was my daily. I broke the radiator, sent her for a few defeat doughnuts, and never blew a head gasket...

Close call got me rethinking how hard I send her; so I looked for auctions. I scored a Border Patrol seized 4runner, with only one broken panel piece (thats better than my current runner). It was a California rig, I think the lack of rust sold me more than anything.

Paid 3k for a solid, rust free, no dents, no dings, clean carfax, flush bumpers, 2001, 4wd... Only downside is she ain't manual; but hopefully one of the two autos will die.

If you dont love the way it turns out, there is a person on ebay that makes OEM matched leather replacements. I did one and I am happy with how it turned out and wasn't too tough once you figured out the stitching. It is an actual replacement for the old cover, so you have to cut the old one off.

I think it ran $50

Well, nothing much to the 4runner. Waiting on Rago driver side single panel. But today...... I made a big move. I purchased a 2016 Tundra Platinum. Certified with 46k mikes. No photos yet. The dealer will deliver car for Convenience . Pretty excited. Not 4runner related so sorry.
