What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Kid turned 16 on thursday, dragged him to junkyards today. Found some good stuff and surprisingly reasonably priced, too. Most of it is for my 4Runner, the one 94 Volvo 740 we saw didn't have the hood and fender we need to make the kid's ride prettier. Hubby got a few piddly bits too.

Now I just have to find some time to put some of these things in places...

That is a great haul! Those Sport Hood insulators are hard to find.

Finally found a method to clean off the horrific water spotting I had on all my windows (except the windshield). The spotting was so bad, I hated washing the truck because the spots stared back at me. No matter what I tried (steel wool, vinegar, polishing compounds), the spots remained firmly in place.

Finally tried Griot's Garage Fine Glass Polish, along with one of their buffing wheels in a DA buffer, and it's good as new.

I'm bad at taking pictures, but you get the idea:

Impressive Leon. :jaw: Try Meguiars Ultimate Compound next time with an orange buffing pad with a good DA machine. Then keep clean with Invisible Glass spray that has the rain repellent in it.

Got a roof rack from pick-a-part yesterday - cleaned/sanded/painted. Installed today.

Also got a rear spoiler but haven't cleaned it up yet, still debating on whether I want to add it.

Got a sunglasses holder/cover at the junkyard for $4 since mine didn't have one in it when I bought it. I looked at pick-a-part for two months before I finally found one.

Thanks! Funny thing is that's exactly what I tried earlier (Meguiar's Ultimate Compound), which I use to polish paint prior to waxing. But it didn't even make a dent in the spots that I had .

I think they are scale from your hard water drying on it so I'm guessing some acid would work. CLR too.

After multiple road trips this Spring, the bugs, rock chips and a windshield crack added up and the ride was a mess. Decided to do a deep clean and started today with the engine bay and the front clip. Saw some posts on here regarding best steps, and I finally have a power washer, so overall it was easy. The pictures may not show much of a difference but in person it looks great. Not bad for a 20 year old vehicle!

Cleaner: Simple Green
Power Washer
Finish: Stoner Trim Spray

Today I adjusted my steering column over by one spline since last year when I did the tack mod on the loose slip joint I didn't put it in exactly the same and the wheel was always a little bit crooked while driving straight.

I noticed that the spline didn't go in all the way when putting it back together. It was like that after I put it back last time. Presumably it was all the way in originally before I removed it the first time. The lower piece coming from below seems to have some up and down play like it is coming from a yoke but I couldn't get it to go on any further than in the photo below.

This is what it's supposed to look like, photo taken from this thread:

Does anyone know how to get it to seat all the way?

Finally got my arb compressor mounted and installed in the back cubby hole. It was a pain to do, but I learned to solder in the process. So that leads to getting an arb air locker installed and new 4:88 gears!!

Yes, put some channel locks on the lower portion of the spline to keep it from pushing into the engine bay. I did that with mine and was able to fully seat it after doing the mod. Good luck!

The mild acid (vinegar) didn't even touch the spots, and I was afraid to step to stronger acids.

Just got my T4R a week or so ago. Got the dome lights working, power door locks working, all lock cylinders freed up, lubed all my hinges, installed some dash pieces that were missing when I bought it, LEDs in just about everything interior... I think thats about it.

Rebuilt a broken rear cup holder using parts from the new one and my old one that already had arms out of a different one.

The simple green was premixed, so I'm thinking it was not concentrated/full strength. I covered the alternator, fuse box, battery terminals and air box (couldn't find my deck hole plate). I left it on for just a couple minutes as it was pretty hot out and waiting any longer the simple green was drying. I did two rounds of simple green, using an old toothbrush on the extra grimy areas. The power washer was a huge help imo.

Today, I finished up the first phase of my $7.50 gamma lid storage solution for the space above the passenger rear wheelwell. I wanted a larger access "door" but didn't want to spend the $50-$60 on a marine hatch. Here's the video: YouTube

I just ordered SEM landau black spray and i'm going to see how nicely I can get the plastic moulding and caulk to blend with the interior plastic and paint it black.

WARNING: If you have a nice interior, just keep going...you don't want this.
