Installed cb antenna mount and ditch light brackets from SRQ fab today. Put a 4' firestik antenna on and some cheapo amber fog light on. Painted the wheels today with some duplicolor silver metallic paint so they are one color again and turned out pretty decent

Finally had the Blackoak LED light bars (bought last June) and PODS installed. Went with an SP-9100 switch panel. I love this set up and it sure seems to work well. I'll get it out for some night time offroading in the coming weeks.

The solid state (no fuses or relays) panel is so nice and takes up almost no space in the engine bay.

Vagabond 4x4 here in Phoenix did the install and I'm very happy with their work.

Just bought a boring old 2001 Limited 4x4. 1 Owner, 198k miles. All services up to date. TB/WP/ValveCover gaskets were done at Toyota 5000 miles ago. You could eat off the frame it's so clean. Been garaged 100 percent of it's life.

I put an Airlift 1000 kit on straight away.

Stereo Swapped from my 99 3rd Gen.

Swapped the Retractable Windshield Shade too.

I feel pretty fortunate so far. The gentleman had it listed for 9k, but went down to $8300. After 5 months of searching 4Runners country-wide... I honestly don’t know how good of a price that is, haha. His father was the original owner, and he included all the original paperwork and manuals, so I’m hoping everything is going to turn out well.

Cheap chinesium from eBay. They connect via bluetooth to a receiver installed behind the headunit. Really only use it for volume control and jumping to the next track. The cheap Android HU I have only has touch screen controls so made it easy to use, especially with all the dust that collects on the face of it.

2 weeks ago, I bought a 1996 T4R and now I'm getting it ready (I hope) to pass the extremely difficult California smog test. How difficult is it ? Well, truth to tell, they can and will fail you for a loose gas tank cap. Seriously !
If my Chilton's repair manual for the T4R 1996, ever arrives from Amazon, I can find where they hid the PCV.

Dropped the 4runner off at the body shop. Moving on the the next stage of the restoration of this 99 4runner. Bumpers, hood, mirrors, all cladding/flares, drivers fender are all being refinished and painted natural white. No more two tone white/silver in two weeks.

Completed so far:
Completely rebuilt suspension (all bushings, shocks, coils, ball joints etc)
Steering system (new rack & pinion, pressure lines, tierods, fluid)
All Fluid maintenance
Rebuilt AC system with all new components
Sound deadened interior
Alpine CarPlay stereo system w/ door speakers and compact sub
New leather seat covers w/ heated seats
Replaced steering wheel
Tundra brake upgrade
Stainless steel break lines and new brake fluid
5th gen TRD wheels & tires
Projector headlights
Supercharger
injectors, MAF, O2 sensors, coil and plugs
Intake cleaning
Big 3 upgrade



Last major item after the body work is frame restoration. Frame is sold but needs a major clean up and coating with POR15 and fluid film. Bought this 4runner 11/1/19 and plan to keep it for 10+ years.

Sounds better, a little deeper and growly, I just get ticking when I floor it, usually only hear it briefly at high RPM right before shifting up. I took another look at the manifold to cat pipe flanges and they look like they are flush together with no spacing so its possible they are bottomed out and not fully sealed so I think I do need those crush washers. The instructions said to just reuse the manifold and egr gaskets and just install the supplied crush washers, no mention of reusing the old gaskets or replace them, my old ones were black toast and crumbly.

I got the crush washers installed behind the oem ones on the cat side of the exhaust to exhaust manifold flanges. I can see a gap now between the flanges so I think without the crush washers the flanges bottomed out and didn't seal fully.
Low end torque is great now. It really pulls from a stop, not so laggy anymore. Actually pulls up hills and not just bogs. I don't hear the ticking so much right now. I need to put some miles on it and re-torque.

Can only afford rears right now, I'm waiting on parts to come in a week. My current rear is shot, I think the jounces are sitting on the frame, so I can review them when I get them in but I got nothing to compare to except it will probably be "no more extreme bump explosions from the rear" I drove down to toytec, nice people, their parking lot looks like 4runner offroad showroom.
