Thanks calimobber for the reminder and I did tighten them a fair amount as it did occur to me they might come loose.

Make sure you lock tight those D-rings. I have have a pile of those in my garage that have fallen off vehicles and I find them on the dirt roads out here. They just rattle loose overtime if left on the vehicle all the time.

I think he meant to say that you should "Loctite them", as in use a threadlocker.

Might have to pick up a set of those. They are definitely some beefy D-rings!

got my project car home. Did not intend for it to be a project car. But today was its longest drive ( half hour), and near end of drive it became a project car. Check engine light came on and ran like crap. Smelled like raw gas. Will get my OBD reader out later today.

Fixed the rats nest from last weekend

Much happier with how this turned out than what I was originally thinking it would be, lol. I probably have to go with 1/4" ABS because the 1/8" is already feeling pretty flimsy with the two breakers overhanging the OEM fuse box.

Replaced my busted lower valance

The 4Runner has a lower valance that was taped up from the previous owner and I'm done looking at the nasty looking patch job so I decided to shop online for a cheap replacement and found one on Amazon.

Here's a pic of the lower valance taped up with some sort of gorilla tape and some black paint:noidea:
<a href="https://ibb.co/rtm8410"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/TTkjmF2/20201207-122104.jpg" alt="20201207-122104" border="0"></a>

There were two bots, behind the bumper that attach the bumper to the frame. Then, there was one bolt, on each side, right under the very edge of the bumper near the wheel well. Once these are unbolted, you can remove the entire bumper to make it easier to unbolt the lower valance rather than trying to do that while it's attached to the front end:
<a href="https://ibb.co/C8ffRX6"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/wgff5b7/20201212-100357.jpg" alt="20201212-100357" border="0"></a>

Once the bumper comes off, you'll unbolt the valance from the bumper and then use the existing clips on the old valance and place them onto the new valance so you can bolt them back on.

Here's a old valance and the new one:

With the new valance, the front end looks pretty much like a brand new truck:

That's one way to get easy access to the top shock bolts... :heh:

p0306....bad injector is what it says if I read that right

Not a bad injector specifically. It's a misfire on cylinder 6. That might be caused by the injector, or it could be a spark issue. I'd lean towards a spark problem first as you should be able to check that yourself pretty easily. I'd start by checking plug wires. Check the plug boots and make sure they are okay, and make sure the connection to the coil pack is solid. I'm pretty sure that my plug wires were original when I bought mine a couple of years, and they disintegrated off the coil packs when I replaced the spark plugs.

Since you are only seeing the misfire on cylinder 6, it's more likely the plug or the wire rather than the coil pack since the coil pack should show a problem on cylinders 3 and 6, but the coil pack is a possibility as well. If you want to troubleshoot it, I'd start by checking the spark plug in cylinder 6. If you pull it and it looks bad you can just replace it (Probably should just replace them all at that point), or you can trade it for another plug from a different cylinder, and see if the code follows the plug. If it does, the problem is the plug, if not then keep looking. The next thing I'd do would be to swap the plug wires. You should be able to move the 5-2 wire to 3-6 and and just run the wire over the top of the engine since it won't be long enough to route properly. For a check that won't hurt anything. Swap the 3-6 wire to 5-2, and see if the code moves from cylinder 6 to cylinder 2 which would tell you the wire is bad. If the misfire still stays with cylinder 6, swap the wires back to their correct spots, and try swapping the cylinder 3 coil pack with one of the other two and see if that solves it. If all of that doesn't isolate the problem, only then would I start to look at injectors.

It is possible that it will run fine when you next start it up. Since you said it was fine until towards the end of a longish drive, that could suggest that it is a heat related issue. If that is the case coil packs and plug wires can be fine when cold and have issues at temperature, so you may need to do the trouble shooting with the engine up to temperature.

Picture for reference if you aren't sure which cylinder is which.

Thanks MagusWyatt.

I would have picked up on "loctite" fairly easily but the space between the two regular words did not register that way.

Here's the D-rings I bought.

No worries. And that's actually why I clarified, because I did the same thing when reading it with the space between, haha. I read it 3 times because it sounded strange to me, and then finally realized what he had meant.

Thanks for the link. 22 bucks and a 5% off coupon? Sold.

im gonna try plugs first......but injector is real noisy now with stethoscope near it. and I dont think a bad plug would make injector noisy

The husband's 99's #6 injector worked fine until it got hot, then the truck ran bad and had a misfire. His 10 minute work commute wasn't enough, it was longer drives than that.
Husband replaced it with a set off ebay- advertised as Toyota and not real cheap- and they leaked terribly.
We then pulled a set off a wrecked truck at the junkyard, been running great ever since.
Of course he checked the other possibilities first.

Thought I posted this yesterday but I must have forgotten to publish it. Anyway, finished up some more work on my lighting project.
