What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

finally installed Spiker Engineering hood struts. Simple clean easy job. Great mod, should have done b4 I did my timing belt about 10 days ago.
I ordered them in 2020 but then totaled that yota b4 install . Forgot I had not installed on my totaled one, so when I came across them the other day I put them on this one.

My son likes them so much he plans to order for his 2017 taco.

Finally installed my cabin vent filter and cover from Four Cam Engineering. Getting the old one out with my bumper on was a total PITA but certainly easier than trying to take the whole bumper+tire carrier off and on again

In all honesty, I've put in thousands of $$ in mods into my truck (as most of us have), and quite often I scratch my head afterwards trying to decide if anything actually improved. Are these tires an improvement, are these shocks an improvement, are these bumpstops worth it? - they must be, because they cost me a lot of money, and I hate to be a sucker!

No such questions with the hood struts - you pop them in, and you'll be smiling ear to ear every time you open the hood .

I've been waiting for almost a year for Scarab Offroad Technologies to make their underhood lighting kit again because I'm too lazy to piece it together myself. Have you considered offering an underhood lighting kit to compliment the hood struts?

Not really. Scarab tried to have some kind of a package deal with the hood struts at optoffroad, but I think they are always (often) out of stock on their items, I guess they are a pretty small operator.

Wrapped up a weekend project of wiring my starter battery through to a house battery under the sleeping platform. Went through an extra grommet in the firewall and through the center console, then out back under the carpet. It was a PITA, but is very hidden. Slide out fridge comes tomorrow, looking forward to hooking it all up. No more warm beer after day 3.

If anyone knows what that grommet is supposed to be for I'd be curious to know.

You were able to get the old vent out and put a new OEM vent in with your bumper installed? Looking at the vent I wasn't sure that would be possible. I'm in the same boat of not wanting to pull my bumper and tire carrier to replace the vent. I've had a new vent sitting here for a few months, but have no desire to take off that 100lb + bumper.

Just picked this up 97 3.4L (have to do a little more digging but engines probably done) was listed as an auto

Took the 4runner out to the Crystal Mill in CO. Getting up there was easy peasy with the new suspension!

I was, with the help of a dremel. Had to take off the interior panel and cut off a large portion off the back of the vent for it to fit through the outside, and use some vise grips to yank it out the remainder of the way. It wasn't hard at all, just annoying and really tedious. However if you're able to or not would highly depend on what bumper you have and how much room it gives you; I got lucky with my CBI bumper and have the perfect amount of room between the body that I was able to angle the lip through and give me much more space and leverage to work with - if it had been any closer I don't know if it would've been possible

maybe they think they have a manual cause they manually have to shift from park to drive or to reverse

I just realized you were asking about an OEM vent so I wanted to put out there I was replacing it with a vent from Four Cam Engineering, which is completely straight and not curved upwards like the OEM one and can be inserted straight in - rather than having to tilt it up and rock it into place. Just wanted to point that out in case it wasn't obvious

just planning to replace the engine, fixes it up a bit, and move it along to a 5 speed person.
