Yesterday I by happenstance decided to do the full clutch spring delete. Started by me trying to change the stock bushings on the spring without removing the clutch pedal assembly. Spent a while trying to wrestle the spring back in laying in the foot well only to realize that I had broken one of my new bushings in the process. Rolled down to harbor freight for some some Velcro ties for my diy 4 way air up/down setup with no spring only to realize I absolute love the clutch feel with no spring so I'm just leaving it this way.

If you don't have a return spring on the clutch you will wear your throw out bearing faster. Without the return spring there will always be a small amount of pressure on the throw out bearing because the clutch pedal is not fully up and disengaged.

Interesting, so just the weight of the pedal there causes that extra wear? If that is the case I might just go ahead and do the linear spring mod then. Thanks for the info.

That's precisely it. If you could find a very light spring the correct length then it shouldn't affect the pedal feel you have right now. I did the linear spring and it's as stiff as the original torsion spring maybe a little stiffer.

So I guess the throwout bearing in these is not a constant contact bearing and so they aren't made to constantly be spinning with the pressure plate? Just the weight of the pedal is enough to have the MC send some pressure to the slave and push the fork just enough to engage that bearing on the pressure plate (literally just learning what a throwout bearing is and how all those components work together)?

The throw out bearing is constantly spinning, but when the clutch pedal is released there is very little pressure on the bearing. Without the clutch pedal return spring pulling the pedal to the stop there will always be load/pressure on the throw out bearing which will cause it to wear faster. Ideally with a manual transmission you want a worn out clutch to be the reason you have to pull the transmission and not one of the bearings. It could outlast the clutch or it could be fried in 20k miles. It's hard to tell.

And this is why I love this forum. Seems like you can learn anything you want to know about any part on our vehicles, especially with 20+ years of experience on the gen 3s. Just called local stealership and they have the linear clutch spring for the 02 2.4L Tacos in stock and for only $11 which apparently is a commonly used spring for the mod so I'm going to fix that up right away. Thanks again for the sage wisdom.

finally got LEDs in the dash. The climate control LCD screen has been unlit for I don't know how long. Got "wamr white" LEDs in the map lights, passenger dome and rear as well but those aren't interesting photos.

Pioneer BT4200? I have one, too

My next interior lighting mod will be better cargo lights. I'm thinking an LED strip controlled by the cargo switch in the forward position.

Nice, I love the features on those something or other models

yeah it's great. I wanted a single din with bluetooth, aux, and usb input that didn't look like it was made in someone from 1992's idea of what the future would be like. It's really hard to find a single din that doesnt look absolutely ridiculous IMO.

The two usb inputs are on cables from the back and I routed one to a cable like this that I mounted in the spot where the cigarette lighter was.

Sorry Officer

While the clear coat on my hood packs up and leaves due to heat from the massive HP boost from the scoop, I distracted myself with a not-exactly-legal front plate. Right state and numbers - wrong era. Good quality embossed aluminum from Germany without the annual vanity plate fee. Yes, they also do yellow on black, black on yellow and current blue on white. My factory plates are the one-year only EXTREMELY COLLECTIBLE (not) Sesquicentennial versions, so I'm saving one from calamity in case I ever need another rear.

Definitely want to do some LED mods at some point. I forgot how wimpy old school interior lights were compared to the LEDs going in modern vehicles.

Those look really good! How were you able to get your dash lights to not have hot spots? What brand of bulbs did you go with?
