What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I know this might not be correct protocol but I noticed you are very experienced in 4 runners so I have a question. A friend has a 1999 Toyota 4 runner with 189k miles. He is the original owner. It is a Florida vehicle no rust, all service records new tires. The seats are not leather and have been covered since day one. when you pull them up they are like brand new. Also the vehicle is one of 150 with the factory installed supercharger (according to him) and it is a 4X4 with manual transmission. The only negative is the paint has had some sun damage as during its life it has been kept outdoors. I am recently retired and and would like a vehicle to ticker with. The prices seem all over the board but he wants $10k. My son in law says it is a "unicorn" and should buy immediately. Any response?

If 10k isn't going to set you back - hell yeah! YOLO. It is a Unirorn, indeed. If you decide it's not your cup of tea, you can flip is and make a nice little profit.

No such thing as factory installed supercharger. The dealership could install a supercharger but Toyota didn't install one at the factory.

With that being said $10k is about market value for a manual/4wd/V6 4Runner with sub 200k miles WITHOUT the supercharger. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Just got back from 17 days and 3300 miles of fun in Colorado and Utah.
It was AWESOME!

The very next time I drive the old blue thing this happened at the end of our street on the way to get groceries.

3rd member side gear situation. It just proves that grocery shopping is no good.
Except for the part where I like to eat.
Except that part.

Thank goodness these pull apart easy enough (and the anti-seize on the locker studs didn't hurt either).

Slipping Transmission, big damage?

Hello,
BLUF: Transmission was slipping above 2k rpm, I drove it for ~60 miles real weak, but it immediately and beautifully recovered upon adding radiator fluid while at gas station. Permanent damage?
2002 SR5 A/T 4x4, 214k miles

My first post ever, LMK if I'm missing some customs and courtesies.
LMK and I'll share more context about the days before with radiator/coolant
TY!

Just had my 3rd gen down in the shop and did the radiator, water pump, timing belt, all pulley belts, new timing belt idlers, new brake master cylinder, new upper and lower ball joints and outer tie rods. Not necessarily stuff you can see on the outside but I know it's all there! Installing a 2" stage 1 Bilstien lift next week then I'll be taking her in for an alignment. People keep asking me why I'm putting so much work and money into an old car and I just smile and think to myself, "Let's just see if you're Kia or Tesla is still running in an other 30 years." I aim to keep the old girl running! After all, she was my first real girlfriend;)

I decided to throw some time and money at my 4runner on some needed and preventative maintenance. It's got 422,000 miles on it so I think it deserves some love.
In the last week I have done front wheel bearings (were still OE), LBJ, inner(OE) and outer tierods, rotors and pads. Still have to get tires and an alignment.
Once all this is done, I can hopefully get back to my 3rz swap in my '94 pickup.

Changed 6 injectors and it did not fix the problem.
2001 SR5. 187,000 miles. Started to run rough and sputter under load. Starts and idles fine.

Started with these a few days ago.
Changed plugs and one coil(due to misfire code for cylinder 3. No difference
Checked other coils- all sat. Replaced fuel filter and O2 sensor-O2 sensor code was on when truck was purchased. No difference
Checked all wires-all sat. No vacuum leaks noticed.

Any ideas??

Thought my ignition switch went out so I replaced it with a factory one and didn’t fix my issues and long story short and tracing wires and a lot of testing I bought a used Ecm and got it back on the road at 375,823

Cup Holder Rejuvenation

I was reading old forum posts, as one does when bored, and came across a 9+ year-old post about the front cup holder where I learned that it was just a busted pin behind my cup holder woes and it was repairable.

Now I can hold a can in both sides again.

Thanks habanero

Air vents! That's the thing I was trying to remember when I was ordering parts the other day...

It's worth making the effort to post things when I hear people find some of my stuff useful, thanks :thumb:

Did the 96-98 to 99+ intake system swap. Repinning the MAF connector was kind of a PITA (I found that using a thick sewing needle was the best way to get the pin locks up without mangling them too much) but everything else was rather smooth. Was nice to get rid of my busted airbox. PO did the deckplate mod except with two holes and no deck plate which was not inspiring when doing water crossings and frankly made odd noises that I only realized where caused by this after I taped it up in the middle of an offroad run (literally sounded almost like engine knock). Also I cracked the bracket that comes off it to hold the old style maf so it wasn't sealing up properly. Even managed to find a 99+ intake tube that was in quite a bit better condition than mine that was getting super stiff. Only other issue I had was getting the driver head vent hose onto the slightly larger nipple on the 99+ (that run is also shorter so I had to cut the hose down). Everything works fine, no codes are getting thrown and if anything it seems to be running slightly smoother but who knows it could be engine work placebo. Thanks to Clearock for supplying the parts to do this. On a side note anyone interested in a perfectly functioning OEM 96-98 MAF and/or a little bit stuff but still perfectly functional 96-98 tube? Looks like the only place you can get them is Amayama for like $577 now.

Finished assembling a Frankenseat for the driver's side. Literally the best parts from five junkyard seats in various states of decay.

I reinforced the foam with felt on problem areas (bolsters, tears, areas where metal would otherwise contact foam, etc.) and added a little extra foam to the bottom for added cushion.

The fabric and upper foam is from a passenger's seat, so I had to adapt them both for the lumbar system, but it wasn't difficult.
